Two Worlds 2 isn't much better, but it's gone up from "ARRRGH MY EARS" to "this is kind of crap" at least. What's really sad is when you have real AAA titles like the StarCraft series (or indeed virtually all Blizzard games post-Diablo 2, actually) where it's just terrible acting all round, despite the high-tens or even hundreds of millions being spent on development.

Verily! It was definitely improved by the second installment. Not great, just better than the first.

In regard to Blizzard...I guess you could say that at least they're consistent?

Guys got talent but everyone thinks he's bad because his Shepard isn't godtier.

I can't speak for anyone else here, of course, but I don't think that, I just don't like the way ManShep sounds. His other work is fine and he is no doubt talented. The way he and the voice director person decided ManShep should sound just doesn't resonate with me, is all.

Oh, it's this thread again.

For the record, I like Meer's Renegade more than Hale's but Hale does a better Paragon.

You guys do know that most of the time it isn't ACTUALLY the VA's fault right? I mean it's the VA Director that decides what they each sound like and they tell them to read the lines in a specific manner/voice, for a specific scene, for a specific role, etc. It's very complex stuff. That being said Mark Meer is a really good voice actor and doesn't get enough credit for it. Any vorcha in the game is done by him, the biotic god is as well, and MANY other minor roles. Even Jennifer Hale, being as EXTREMELY talented as she is, reads most if not all the same lines in a similar manner. That and have you ever played a renegade playthrough on either before? That's really good. Cut him some slack.

Both have done fine jobs overall in the series. At times the leads voice acting can sound bland compared to other characters who have more freedom to express themselves. The leads have to make sure they don't go too far because they are voicing the player.

Pretty much this.

Which, incidentally, is the reason Jacob's romance is so hated.

Thousand times this.

i like the level of mark meers, jennifer hale is good, but like with Bastila, she sometimes goes too overboard. too dramatic, too "we must save the universe!"

I personally can't stand the ManShep vocal track but it's as you say. Meer is actually a very good voice actor, it's the way he was directed that makes the ManShep voice so flat, dull and boring.

So if anyone needs blaming it is indeed the voice director.

Haters are gonna hate.

It's all well and good some of you think Jennifer Hale is the better voice actor but there's nothing evident for you to claim Mark Meer is crap. He is, for many of us, a damn fine voice actor for Shepard. We can't really picture male Shepard's voice as anything else. Meer landed it right.

My personal opinion about Jennifer Hale is that while she does a damn fine job, she sounds like she's putting too much effort to add some testosterone to her voice. Now I have nothing against action girls, they are damn awesome and show even females can kick just as much ass. But FemShep just doesn't sound right to me, like she's trying too hard to come across as a grunt soldier or a heavy hitter. This is my opinion and my opinion only, but she just doesn't sound natural. I'll say it again, she's a good voice actor and a fine one for FemShepard. She could just use a little toning down with the "BEEFY TESTOSTERONE" tone. That's just my thoughts.

I honestly do not see this being the case. I have never considered one to be better or worse then the other. Honestly they both could use some work, but they both get the job done. Female Shepard always seemed like a Lesbian to me. (Becaue of her VA.)

Sorry I mean no offense it's just my opinion. My Female Shepards are the only playthroughs I can watch Kelly dance in her quarters so that does help my image of Shepard also. Kaiden dies, but Shepard can still romance Liara. My main female Shepard playthrough has Kaiden,Thane,Jacob,& Garrus all dead. Kelly in her chambers and a close bond with Tali... It just feels right to me

This thread is silly...

THough, I don't know how one "Sounds like a lesbian..." That statement alone confuses my brain.

Neither do I,it also confuses my brain, maybe it is just my "subconscious" wish for female Shepard, and ME3 will help me accomplish this.

Also I agree with the post under mine. That is part of the reason also.

I prefer Meer. While her voice-acting as Bastila was great, with Mass Effect Hale sounds like she's force-injecting masculinity into her voice. It sounds awkward to me.

prefer hale to meer. He's a bit too monotone for my tastes but like everything in this franchise it's YMMV.

obviously they both have fans

any thoughts comments concerns? :P

You'd be surprised of how many extra voices Mark Meer did in ME2.

He's not a bad voice actor. He just had bad voice direction sometimes.

The voice acting has always been great with both mass effect games, same with the dragon age games. I don't see anything wrong with any of it. It the one area of the Bioware's development that always does a top job.
