I think what people forget, is that because we are each playing our own character and making our own decisions, we expect the character to say something in a way in which we would have meant it. So when the VA nails what was going through our mind, we say.... "They're great!"
I think that's why there is such a huge variety of people disliking one over the other or liking both or hating both. It's all in how we think they portray a character that can be so visibly diverse.
I personally like both. But Hale a little better!
I couldn't agree more
Ditto. Which version of Shepard do you identify with more? Often times, folks associate themselves with those that they connect/identify themselves with.
I identify more with Paragon Female Shepard. Though I wish I could have been slightly renegade, but the game doesn't really work that way.

You could have gone that way. I ended up 54-60% Paragon while a full Renegade. I was not "forced" to go either way. Yeah, I didn't have he major paragon options, but I didn't want them. Same would be true if the %s were reversed.
I've heard about the Paragon "favoritism" and understand it, but don't necessarly agree with it.
Having said this, I just meant Shepard - not Shepard's philosophy; however, I appreciate you mentioning it. For me, whether P or R, I connect with female Shepard.

Sorry, Meer does a good job in my book. And Hale doesn't.

Did you play like that and still survive the suicide mission Repearized Miranda? I tried a bunch of renegade interrupts in my second play through and it screwed with my persuasion.
Yes, I did. When it came to the "Diffuse situation between X and Y", I just picked the options available (Renegade) and kept both participants of each.
I understand your problem, but the reason I was able to get said percentages was by correct power evolution, You want to choose evolutions that increase meter points. (AFAIK, there are two specific ones that do this - for Sentinel at least - not sure about the other characters)
On your squad screen (for Shepard), once the proper evolution(s) is picked, you will see BOTH sides of the meter fill up accordingly. The description will say something like: "XXXX will give you a XXXX percentage in P/R points." Evolve the power (A) the de-evolve (reset points - X) it a few times to watch the meter act accordingly.
That makes it possible to have either side full. It may be possible to get both sides full, but along with the proper evolutions, you pretty much have to flip flop with every decison even the major ones provided they're available.
I was a full Renegade in ME1 as well and will probably remain such in three - though I doubt I will make ALL renegade decisions.
Shepard's philosophy has nothing to do with surviving the SM. I'd have to be completely stupid (=/= being a butthole) to fail it. Having squadmates die is very easy though.

I really hope Jennifer Hale picks up her act with her VO in ME3.
She was great in ME1 but in ME2 she always sounded either bored or horny.
Or both.
She could read a phone book in that tone and I'd be grateful.

Then I heard the renegade dialogue check for tali and legion argument. Why the hell doesn't he utilize more emotion like this example? He showed more emotion and commanding voicing to break up the fight. it was amazing.
Something like: You two can either fall in line, or get crushed under my heel. But you will NOT stand in my way!
Unfortunately, this is his only notable line in the entire game imo. Granted, it's super awesome, but overall, it just doesn't compared to Jen Hale's awesomeness

Just enjoy both people. I became a fan of Hale from KOTOR (Bastila) and love her as FemShep. Mark Meer does just fine as Male Shepard IMO.
