I've defended this game since it came out and even started a group called Fans of Dragon Age II. I was looking forward to this DLC unti I read the post Bioware made today on Facebook linking to information on the DLC. I'm really disapionted that the DLC will take place BEFORE the end of the game. What the hell was the reason for this? Why not progress the story? I think I'm going to wait to see some reviews before even thinking about downloading this.
Did it ever occur to you that some history on the Hawke Family could help shape his/her character???
Its only the first DLC. Be Patient

Personally I have mixed feelings. On the one hand, I *too* want a DLC that continues where the story left off. On the other hand there's something to be said for a DLC that fills in the gaps within an existing story.
What I really don't care about is a 1-3hr stand alone DLC that does neither. Because that just seems pointless to me

And none of which needs to be done BEFORE the end of game!
Be Patient? I'm not asking them to rush any content. I wa happy to purchase the weapons pack and wait for story DLC. I would be happy to wait a few more months for DLC done right. I want to see Hawke's story progressed not going back into a game I've completed 4 times. I don't think what I'm asking is unreasonable or lacking in patients.

Personally, I would rather have had Spacer Shepard dlc with Captain Hannah of the Orizaba than dlc about Hawkes dad which hasn't been shown to have any relevance to the cliffhanger Circle/Chantry storyline of DAII. Not saying Legacy had to have this relevance for everyone, but my purchase of the dlc was based on it.

So people have to pay an extra$10 to make the MAIN CHARACTER of the game an actual character?

Yes I know you can. Its the point that I've already played it through and that filling in an unimportant detail that has no relevence to the ending of the game is not wat I envisioned. Maybe my expectations were to high because I enjoyed the game so much, but this was a moajor let down for me.

its a dlc not a expansion learn the diffrence.
What a stupid responce! So your telling me that DLC fills in plot details and expansions advance the story? Where is this rule written since I've seen DLC advance plots before?
Some DLC can be used for plot details but it can also advance the story and help flesh a cliffhanger ending that I really enjoyed. A lot of people on these boards cried about DAII ending but I loved it. My fear now is that ALL DLC for DAII will be this fill-in crap and we will get no advancing of the plot line till DAIII.
This also goes to one of the biggest gripes I've seen written about on these boards with DAII. Choices did not matter and the ending was going to be the same no matter what choices you made! How does this address that?

dlc can advance and develop storylines - like Arrival - even with the dlc possibly taking place among the main games missions.

Exactly!! I'm not saying all plot fill-in DLC is bad but when you have a game with an awesome cliffhanger ending you would think the first DLC would adress that.
ME2's DLC was awesome and I've purchased every one of them. I'm just begining to think that to Bioware ME is the number-1 child a DA is the red-headed step-child. They have a real awesome world with DA, and I'm starting ti wonder if they know what to do with it or they just make it up as they go along.

And the combat of course still looks extremely silly, breaks immersion and kills the atmosphere every time.
I still havn't been able to finish the game yet because of these issues (mainly).

All DLC is size limited by XBOX Live and PS3 patches. It can either be long, have new locations or new designs but not all three.
Still, $10 feels like a slap in the face for what was basically a rushed game. Maybe if they weren't so focused on DLC they maybe could have gotten the team together to make more than one of each type of area or more than one type of pirate/ninja/assassin/rouge/mage/etc character that attacks for no reason. Shouldn't they be trying to win back the fan base a bit more?

I think DA2 story was ok , feels more like a steping stone of whats to come.
Im looking forward to this DLC to see if they can prove the critics they still have what it takes.

It's not lame, I would like to see what the Architecht done, since we spared him in awakening.
aside from it not looking exactly like the Architect and the Architect possibly being dead there is also talk of it having been held for 2000 years (or something like that) so no it's not the Architect
I'm thinking we probably get to know about his backstory though (how he -and this new one- became what they are/were)

And what's the deal with being able to access the DLC at any time? As someone pointed out in an earlier post... am I seriously going to be able to go from the Qunari sacking Kirkwall in Act 2 to my own little personal family history quest, then come back and pick up right there, with no stutter?
Why they couldn't make this an option to play during one of the 2 or 3 year breaks between Acts, where nothing whatsoever happens, instead of mid-game, at any time doesn't make any sense.
But the trailer looks cool and the plot idea sounds a little engrossing, if a bit off topic. So I will wait for reviews.

I'm a little upset, like others, that this DLC takes place in game. One of the most vocal complaints about the main game was Act 3's plot and ending. To enhance Act 3 or to advance the story beyond it would have been my first thought for DLC.
I would also love to see a dlc that wraps up the end of Act 3. But I'm expecting (and yes, hoping for) many more story dlcs before DA3 finally comes out. It would make much more sense to give us that Act 3 ending dlc at the end of that period.
And meanwhile, it'll be fun getting dlc like this one that will hopefully give the game even more replay value. I know there's been a lot of negative posts about DA2 and Legacy. But I'm one the players that's really enjoying the game.
But I'd like to add a nudge to the Bioware devs. All the great dlc might not keep us playing the game up until DA3 ... without a toolset. Look at the great mods that are still being released for Origins, and how they keep bringing players back to that game. I'm not certain that you can produce dlc fast enough to keep me around for another 6 months without some help from modders. And if players lose interest, there's not going to be as many waiting for DA3. Just saying.

This can work, but it does mean DA3's plot has to pull a "Deathly Hallows" and hit the ground running. We've already played the slowly unraveling mystery, now it's time for some explosive payoff. We don't get that, and we get a Heroes Season 2 problem and the story won't pull together.
I do like the news that this DLC contains new dialogue and new banter for ALL the Companion Characters. Who to take on this journey is going to be a difficult choice.

Luke Barret says:
As Fernando mentioned in the live demo, it is definitely longer than all the DAO DLC (excluding the retail expansion, obviously). If I were to take a guess I would say the average first playthrough is going to be about 3 hours - now, you can rush through and finish it faster but you'll miss a lot. If you're playing on Nightmare and you're sitting at around level 26+ it may take you a very long time to do a completionist pass successfully
- I believe Post-Campaign save has all your companions equipped with whatever they had for the final battle. And yes, this makes very little sense but gameplay wise it would be odd not to have those items
- As far as when the 'best time' to enter the DLC is that all depends on the player and what they enjoy more of. Though, I will caution you from going straight in to the DLC when you first enter Kirkwall - it's deadly difficulty when you're level 5. Nothing stopping you from doing this mind you. [jacob]Heavy risk...but the prize[/jacob]
- The dagger is a single dagger, you can wield it offhand or mainhand if you prefer. As to having a second one... I don't see that appearing any time soon unless you get someone to make a mod for you.
Gameplay times are always difficult to guess, I'd day e.g. I finished Witch Hunt, in 4+ hours, Awakenings in 40+ hours and DA:O+expansions in 140+ hours. But I like to do everything - still, quests were missed.
