I thought that was an armored ogre at first. What the hell have they done to the genlocks?
They've been feeding them darkspawn growth hormone.

I just hope the normal Genlock is more dwarve'ish and those Alpha are the exception. Because the Darkspawn are getting ridiculed until the player will literally laugh themselves to death over those designs whilst some enemy waves hack away their hapless characters ...

I just hope the normal genlocks are more dwarf like rather than huge apes

They were fine the way they were in Origins. So far this DLC is looking like more of the same DA2 we've had instead of the changes from fan feedback they promised.
It is DA2, having the original genlocks when all of them were redesigned would just be dumb.

It's bad enough they're making people pay for the Darkspawn that came with Origins, the fact that they've made THEM hideous too is even worse.

What exactly is wrong with them being huge apes?
Humans -> Human Sized Hurlocks
Qunari/Tal Vashoth -> Bodily Imposing Ogres
Elves -> Sleek, slightly larger Shenlocks
Dwarves -> small, robust ... no wait, giant Ork Gorillas.
See what we think?

They Changed It, Now It Sucks.
Of course, but appealing to logic for a moment, considering that Oghren is about chest high compared to Sten and this thing is probably only chest high compared to an Ogre, it's not exactly unprecedented.
And people are apes. I, in fact, like that DA2's darkspawn show a sort of 'reversion' to a more animal-like state.

However, as you correctly stated (and as too few people are actually aware of), humans (on argumental logic behalves, given the undoubtedly existence of magic in that world) and other species are animals too. So when the Maker twisted their appearance to reflect their twisted hearts, shouldn't it be logical to turn into something than animalistc forms as animals do normally not tend to strive to usurp heavens?
Wouldn't an animalistic state refer to a certain state of innocence from "civilized sins" the magisters had? Isn't a demonic form more fittingly in that regard?

I would have to assume it was created by the Maker to begin with, and even then, yes, I would think him taking away their 'humanity' (or dwarfity or whatever) and leaving them in an animal-like savage existence to be fitting.

Good grief! It looks like a troll from LoTR. Genlock my ass.
And spikes on the side of the shield pointing towards Fenris? if that Genlock smacks it into him, that is going to hurt.
