What does it have to do with thinking outside the box. That picture goes agaisnt what their own codex says a Genlock is. It has nothing to do with us.
But does it ? Do we know what kind of Genlock this is. If its an Alpha then as the Wiki entry makes quite clear. Genlock Alphas are the tallest of their kind. It makes no statment other than that. Ie it doesn't say they are only 4ft high, or not much higher than a normal genlock Or that all genlocks are shorter than humans. That claim isn't even made for normal genlocks, nowhere is it said, to the best of my knowledge, that ALL genlocks are shorter than humans. You are just assuming that. But for Alphas specifically It simply says 'Tallest'. And tallest can mean many things.
http://dragonage.wik...i/Genlock_Alpha
So I can quite happily accept that a rather fearsome Genlock Alpha might indeed be as tall as a human.

Key words. Tallest of their kind. You can be the tallest kid in the class but that doesn't mean that you're twice as big or more than the other kids, it just means you're the tallest.

I'm leaning to the belief that he could have been a Warden and his death was the result of his CALLING but I am most likely wrong.

It means what is says, ie tallest. How much taller they can be is not mentioned, so they may well be an extra foot or so higher...
And not twice the height. After all, just how short do you think dwarves are. Well lets look, how tall is Varric ? Judging by my Hawke, if she is an average height woman, then Varric stands about 4ft 6" high next to her say 5ft 6". That is the crown of Varrics head is level with her shoulders. He is about level with Ander's shoulders too.
So, is Varric average height for his species ?
If so, it doesn't take much expansion from Varric dwarf size, from average genlock to Alpha Genlock, to reach something of the size and height of the genlock in the image under debate here. Add about another 1ft to 1ft 6" and you are pretty much there.

While hurlocks (humans) and genlocks (dwarves) and to a lesser extent, shrieks (elves) all remained the same size as their former selves. Why did the qunari grow when the shorter races didn't?
With that qunari example, I don't see why it's wrong how the genlock is bigger now. Maybe the darkspawn evolved.

And I don't recall Alphas in DAO (whose designs of for darkspawn actually looked scary) being bigger than their brethren. And even if someone had been clever enough to do so, would they really be two to three times the size? Do alphas get a special diet? It's one thing to be smarter as an alpha but to be so grossly engorged? Bleh.
I wish the darkspawn would just get to go quietly back into that good night. And I'll play DAO.
And edited to say, you should probably ignore, me. I am just sad about something else and being more sensitive than usual.

Yeah, honestly the "alpha being big" thing isn't a huge issue, because the nice thing about being the person writing the game is that the lore can say whatever you want it to say. OTOH, the "genlock alpha being a lotr ogre with the serial numbers filed off" is pretty silly.

We're just going to have to agree to disagree, because if my Hawke is average size for a woman. I don't see adding 1ft to 1 1/2 feet to Varric gets you to that thing in the picture. That thing isn't even standing fully upright and is taller than Hawke and Fenris. That doesn't even get Varric to the same height as my Hawke.

Also, like I said Hawke didn't strike me as being very tall.
And lastly, every time I write/type vindication my mind goes to Vinek Kathas.

The Genlock in the picture is about the same height as Hawke and Fenris by the looks of it.(Not accounting for the crested helmet)
Varric is about 1ft to 1ft 6" shorter than Hawke. And Varric is by all accounts, an average dwarf. Genlocks on average are ostensibly dwarf sized, seeing as they are corripted dwarves. So, the genlock in question is not two to three times as large as a dwarf.
It is in fact, probably only 25% or so taller than the average dwarf. Based on that one image.

I don't wanna ignore you
The codex for the alphas said they were the tallest of their kind, and you have to remember that Bioware has been focusing on telling and not showing. It happened in both DA games.
For all we know regular Genlocks are the size of Varric.
And I do not want to see Gremlins again. Those were the only Darkspawn in Origins I hated. They looked nothing like a twisted version of dwarves except for the height.

Ogres were once qunari, isn't that right? Now they're 12 feet tall with immense horns, when they were normal they were about 7-8 feet. That's a five foot (approx.) growth when turned into darkspawn.

No you've got it a bit wrong. Ogres are the Kossith (what Sten, the Arishok, Saarebas, Maraas, etc. actually are) version of Darkspawn, as they come from Kossith Broodmothers. A Kossith Broodmother is a Ghoul that churns out Ogres.
Ogres aren't Kossith, but they come from former Kossith.

And now compared to a dwarf:

I'm just not seeing any genlock, no matter what kind being that tall. Dwarves are not that tall to start with. Look at my picture above of my female Hawke and Varric. I'm just not seeing this.

Kossith? I've never heard of the term before. My knowlege of DA:O lore is far less of what I know of ME, but are the Kossith the race of qunari that are the horned (or not in Sten's case, but the same race). basically the most visible face of qunari?
Because I know Qunari are those that adhere to the Qun, that encompasses all races.
I would check the wikia for this, but lately I've been getting a lot of malware from that site. Both from DA's and ME's, which sucks because I'm an off-and-on editor on that site.

yup Kossith is the appropriate term for the race of creatures that Sten and the Arishok are from. In the DA universe, almost all people call them Qunari. But Qunari actually translates to "people of the Qun", so it describes anyone that lives under the Qun. Humans, elves, dwarves (if they even do), and Kossith.
Also, there is another race of creatures called the Fex, but there isn't much information on them.

Well, your camera angle is somewhat off and thus not in the best place to judge and it does not appear that Varric and your Hawke are standing in line..which is important if you are going to compare heights.
like this for My Hawke and Varric

And this for Varric and Anders, toe to toe

which makes Varric about 4ft 6" as I said.

no not really
Alphas
In any group of genlocks, there is usually one who is dominant. As the tallest, strongest, and smartest of their kind, alphas serve as a sort of commander, directing or bullying the others in combat.
Bioware is free to determine how much taller a Genlock Alpha (which is what we saw in the demo) can actually be, though obviously there are limitations on that. A Genlock Alpha shouldn't be taller than a Hurlock or even a human.
Also, if you're going to bully someone into doing something you're going to need a lot of strength or influence. In this case, Genlock Alphas have a lot of strength.
And, if you look closely the Genlock Alpha is standing up straight and is the same size as Hawke. Additionally, Hawke always struck me as being a human of average height, but I could be wrong on that.
however, I do expect Hurlock Alphas to be taller than regular Hurlocks. I would make Alphas of any darkspawn the tallest of their kind.
And I have to ask two questions. Are regular Genlocks smaller than the Alphas in the game as they should be? And are there any Fex type Darkspawn?
