Bioware, butchering lore one game at a time(Or DLC in this case)

The lore hasn't been butchered though. Its merely been adhered too as per the codex. (whereas it wasn't adhered to at all in Origins). However, some don't like the look of the creature in question, which is fair enough.

But no rules have been broken.

I'll disagree, but do so politely :P They are screwing stuff up, then trying to patch it together with really meh "lore" that seems to have been made on the spot.

But yeah no worries though, one of the few that can see that people enjoy this or is fine with it and im cool with that, but not for me.

I just wish bioware would stop. Stop with dragon age 2 please. Put it on hold for some years and make a proper dragon age game, and name THAT dragon age 2, then this one reconned into Dragon age: KIrkwall or some lame thing like that

To be fair, you do have the option of not purchasing the DLC for a game you think is crap. I didn't like DA2 either and probably never will, but I don't complain nonstop about them and then when they finally come up with something, I still complain before I even try it, as if I have tried it.

You aren't forced to try it, Monica. You aren't even forced to post. They aren't forcing you to buy it, either. I think you've made your point loud and clear in each post of yours.

The genlocks have become the twisted love child of a (Fable) Hobbe and a (Lord Of The Rings) Troll?
I thought I had seen everything, but this obviously proved me wrong. And I should have suspected this of Bioware.

I just saw the trailer for Legacy. The Genlocks were running across the ground like apes.

I thought that Genlock Alphas were the smartest of all Genlocks and were commanders. They look like mindless muscle in the trailer, and the pic I saw.

Perhaps that's because the Genlocks you are seeing in the trailer are not Alpha's but most likely standard grunt Genlocks. Pause the video at key moments and you can see this is most likely the case.

They are small, smaller than the Hurlocks standing behind them and about the same size as the dead (or dying) dwarf one of them is poised over. Exactly 44 seconds into this version of the trailer you should spot that moment

Small, dwarf sized Genlock, see.

And just to be clear, Genlock Alphas are only the smartest of the Genlock line, not the smartest of all Darkspawn. And its not implied they are brilliantly smart as commanders anyway, the wiki simply says they act as a sort of commander...bullying others into action

All the Genlocks in the trailer look and act the same.  The second showing, the one with the shield is just like the one in the picture I saw, that's probably even the CS before you fight the one in the picture. They're all brutes from what I can see.  And Alphas are generals on the genlock armies, directing the other Genlocks, not condusive with being mindless brutes.

And even normal genlocks in Origins stood upright and were somewhat intelligent.  Darkspawn were not mindless creatures.  These things in here are just running across the ground and acting like they're mindless animals.  They aren't even using weapons anymore.

I thought that exact same thing when I saw the trailer. I felt like I was watching a preview of Planet of the Macho Apes.

Jesus Christ what the hell have they done to the genlocks?

It's bad enough they're making people pay for the Darkspawn that came with Origins, the fact that they've made THEM hideous too is even worse.

They used to look like dawrfed Cavity creeps. They look much better now Imo.

You have to remember that when we played Origins, a Blight was going on which gives the Darkspawn a semblance of purpose. They become a lot more cunning than before.

Awakening had the Darkspawn under the leadership of the Mother and the Architect, who functioned as Pseudo-Archdemons. They too gave the Darkspawn within the Arling of Amaranthine a purpose and made them smarter. Outside of that though, they had no influence on the other Darkspawn

The codexes for Darkspawn describe them as bestial and savage. Seranni even says that they are bestial in nature but can overcome it.

Darkspawn are mindless. It's only under leadership that they become somewhat smarter, and only under the banner of the Order of Disciples do they truly show intellect. However, the Genlock Alpha will ambush you and uses a shield and some weapon (couldn't tell if it was a mace, sword, flail, etc.) to attack you. So he shows some intellect and cunning.

Think of them as animalistic outside of Blights, driven by instinct. But during Blights, they become more human-like.

Aside from skin tone, there isn't much of a resemblance imo. But let's just make the Genlocks pink! That way they won't be "rip-offs"! They'll just be idiotic looking....

I approve of the new look the Genlocks have.

Thanks for pointing this out, after I had retired last night I realised I should have added this rather important point about Darkspawn.

They rely on an exterior intelligence to give them direction and sentience. They are, in essence, raging vessels waiting to be filled with purpose. In Origins that intelligence being the Archdemon. Others were as you mentioned.

I get the impression that the guy playing simply sucked, and pretty much on the day of release people will complete Legacy on nightmare and talk about how they just facerolled everything.

And you know why? Because without fans nobody would even care if Bioware releases shovelware, crap games. Like, for example, nobody cares that Gaijin Entertainment releases shovelware, and their forums are silent and empty.
Too bad Bioware has a long history and a lot of people care if they release a really bad game or just present something outright stupid, like this Genlock.:(

possibly but still, within the limitations of the current engine and so on they seem to be trying to make more use of the environment etc for tactical play so thats a good move.

Wether or not they can pull that off remains to be seen.

Also, he was playing on casual in front of an audience of baying DA2 detractors who were just looking for any excuse to disembowel both him and the other guy. So heck, he was probably nervous.B)
