Harbinger seemed just as threatening as Sovereign... he just tended to talk too much so his wow factor dropped fast.

If Sovereign talked as much as Harbinger did, I'd say Harbinger would win out on cool factor.

I think Sovereign sounded much better; when I first heard harbinger in the launch trailer I thought he sounded cheesy. Sovereign was way more sinister, and was revealed in a more dramatic way- that room on Virmire, was oddly haunting.

That's not to say that harbinger doesn't have great story potential (i.e. realising he was just controlling a collector.) but on the whole, he's just annoying more than anything else. I think the fear element of reapers works because they're hardly present.

Hopefully ME3 won't make reapers seem weak, i'm already worried about the fact that they're going to be everywhere...

Don't worry the main reapers (Soveriegn and Harby size) will be a **** to kill. The one's that are the size of the one in the Fall of Earth trailer won't be as tough but can still take a beating since they can survive an orbital strike.

Harbinger may have been a better villain if he didnt spend most of the game possessing his minions and talking smack while Shep thrashes his face each and every time.

Sovereign seemed untouchable however, and pretty chilling my first time around. Sovs > Harbie.

Well, thing is...Sovereign did talk more than Harbinger, and happened to be much more threatening. We never saw Harbinger, and aside from his "I'll get you yet" speech, he just has cheesy one liners when Shepard's in battle with Collectors.

And his dialogue at the ending - and only the ending - of Arrival. Those were the best lines Harbinger ever says. Unfortunately, by the time you hear any of them he has long lost the ability to be intimidating and instead has left you frustrated or irritated by his constant whining. It will take considerable work to redeem him in ME3, by which I mean more is less.

One is likely the head honcho behind the Reaper invasion. The other is in pieces. I`ll stick with the one currently intact.

You know, as I've said earlier, while Harby should have been written better, no way in hell would I have wanted him to suffer getting through an entire two hour thesis while I hosed his behind. That would be more irritating than his repeated one liners.

Having said this, since they did go that route, I've heard much better ones on Youtue and wonder why they didn't use those. I've heard him say more "profound" statements while fighting him, but those were rare gems.

However, I wouldn't say he was written worse compared to the regulars as we cut them off mid-sentence frequently. "Weakening ... (their integrity) Ahh!" (Asari) They repeat phrases, too.

I haven't played LotSB, but I hear that's where the writing for Harbinger got better. Was in a fight though? Same with his debut Horizon appearence and the game's finale. It would seem that "true speeches" happen when they're in "true form."

Well to be fair Soveriegn did have a fleet of geth but they were kind of owned by the time the Alliance started bombarding Soveriegn's arse. And Soveriegn had to use Saren because he was the only reaper in the galaxy at the time and had no way to contact the others.

Those lines were his best likely because that was when they weren't trying to hide the fact that the Collector General wasn't actually Harbinger, its the only time he gets to revel in his Reaper-yness...ness.

I imagine his dialogue will be much more along those lines now that whole facade is over with.

4 years later and Sovereign's speech on Virmire still gives me goosebumps.
Unfortunately whenever Harbinger talks I either lol or roll my eyes.

How does Harbinger have any grapefruits? He uses collectors to ensure he is protected when the body is inevitably shot down. Sovereign on the other hand led a full onslaught upon the Citadel and was scarcely moments away from victory. The reason he transferred his mind into Saren was because Sovereign knew the reality of the situation. If Shepard could be stopped, victory was his, if not then he was doomed to failure regardless.

So with this in mind, I could theoretically say at least Sovereign had the grapefruits to actually lead his assault, in lieu of being a coward hiding behind cannon fodder.

See how easily you can turn this around?

That was what I meant. Once Harbinger ceased acting like a petulant children lacking proper discipline. He was a fairly ominous figure. In fact, I would go so far as to claim had a sizable portion of his taunts been reduced or perhaps him left obscured, with dialogue only in the Collector Ship/Suicide Mission. He would have been far more successful.

Harbinger was in control of the entire collector race. he did not allow them to "redeem themselves" and was activley pursuing Shepard and human colonies. Sovereign tried to conquer ith his tools, Harbinger uses his to weaken while he leads the REAPERS and it looks like he's doing a pretty good job by the looks of the ME3 demo since he's destryong a planet, not a space station.

 @BE: But without the Geth and/or Saren, Sovereign was by himself as was Harbinger without the Collectors. What the devil and where the devil would TIM be without Cerberus? And even Shepard said that Harbinger's coming and he won't be alone. These bad guys need theie lackies if for no other reason than to insult/humilate them when they screw up. (And I did feel bad for the Collector General)

Sovereign never addressed Shepard in battle, who knows what he'd say then.  I'd say Harbinger is just as good as Sovereign when you compare the same or similar topics:
