Wow.  He replies to the artstyle comment by bringing up friggin cosplay ??    Who gives a s**t what these ppl dress up as ?  Because it's distinctive.   I could think of alot of distinctive stuff that's also horrendous too.

Wow, that was a pretty bad post. I know the art style looks like an anime character threw up on a Power Ranger (severe downgrade from Origins), but THINK OF THE COSPLAY!!!!!

I just think that if that's why they changed the art style, to make characters more unique, then Bioware has a lot to learn. I used to think that Bioware wasn't one of those company's that would do anyhting for money and such because they have released some awesome games in the past, but looking at DA2 and how much more could've been done with an extra year or two of development, maybe this is no longer the case. Perhaps they would rather have the COD fans then their core fans they've had for years. Only time will tell I guess:unsure:

Raistlin, they already stated that.   I guess you missed that article.

Bioware: We want Call of Duty's audience - Speaking to NowGamer Melo said: "We have data that shows there are a lot
of people that enjoy playing RPGs although they won't necessarily call
them RPGs. They'll play Fallout, Assassin's Creed and even Call Of Duty,
which have these progression elements - you're putting points into
things - but they don't necessarily associate that as an RPG. So we
think that if we expand that out we'll attract a much bigger audience."

I'm definitely looking forward to it, more curious than anything to see which way the game truly starts swaying. Bioware truly listens to its fans and tries to adapt the new things they're excited to show off with the old parts that made the game as good as it was. With DA2 so heavily debated over what was good/bad, I'm assuming they'll change it up for DA3.

Of course, you can't always please everyone, but I think the core of what Bioware is and what I play their games for foremost--their incredible way of weaving story and character into gameplay--is what will always bring me back. I think DA2 had a lot of subtle storytelling that might have gotten lost under the sweep of criticism.

But for me, Bioware delivers on writing every time. Always look forward to what they turn out.

not sure, dont think i could guess what'll happen with the backlash from DA2. Maybe it'll make them go back to something more Originy, which is no bad thing. But i had no major problem with DA2.

Extremely low.

I've completely lost faith in Bioware. And the following is exactly why:

Bioware are selling out their Core Audience for a slice of the "Big Pie". The "simplification" between ME1 and ME2, DA:O and DA2... and all of the RPG's are no longer "relevant" crap they are spouting... is just further evidence they've lost touch with the community.

They're blinded by the dollar signs...

Will they be back? Idk. But it definitely won't be with DA3. (or ME3 for that matter).

Actually :D I did see that article haha that is exactly why I used that as my example. Personally I consider Fallout to be a RPG, I am a fan of Bethesda's games sush as Fallout and the Elder Scrolls series. I belong to no certain group of gamers like COD fans or hard core RPG fans, I love videogames in general no matter the genre. If I had to belong to one group I would consider myself an RPG fan, but I don't like to label myself haha.

Ok so back on topic, maybe instead of saying your expectations, just give some examples of what you HOPE to see in the next installment of the franchise. I'm a Dragon Age fanboy so this next game will make me decide if I want anything to do with the series anymore. (other then my Origins of coarse ;)) The game was originally the Spiritual Successor to Baldur's Gate, so I hope instead of stomping that spirit into the ground and spitting on it, they'll bring it back to life :innocent:

Hmmm, expectations...

Like in Legacy, keep wave combat relevant and making sense, no more paratrooping, ninja, teleporting enemies.
No more cut and paste envivornments.
No more jumping in time (nice try but didn't work)
Pick one story instead of three disjointed ones to do (again kudos for trying)
No more avatars that are ineffectual like Hawke (and not where even dog is more loved by the companions)
Go back to the DAO artstyle and increase the palate (no more derpspawn, and no more grey low res furniture people) Anime threw up on a Power Ranger indeed, or WoW and Anime threw up.
A middle ground between DAO combat speed and DA2.
Fix the elves especially the NPCs good grief, they are supposed to be beautiful and alluring to humans, most were so ugly I wouldn't touch them with a bag over their heads.
More details and Easter eggs (descriptions on items, books to read, scrolls here and there).
No more "junk" that takes up my bags
Like Legacy, pretty and DAO a pretty detailed environments they make the immersion into the game like a good character and story.
Puzzles (thanks for bringing them back in Legacy)
Talking to my companions whenever I want. Not making me their little errand girl and only pushing the relationship forward when they want something from me. It makes me less attached to them when I feel like a **** being used. And I never got to really bond with them due to talking to them only in their homes while they talked to each other around me (dog getting invited to play Diamondback and Hawke left out? Makes sense).
A place like the camp where they all gather (so I can change loot, etc like in DAO without getting them in my group to do so) and where we could have more convos outside of "do this for me." The Hanged Man could have been such a place. One more wasted opportunity.
More importantly, as someone said, a lot of what was good in DA2 was already in DAO. They should seriously consider doing a 180 back again, and starting from there.

Oh, and toss out that "data" about making RPGs for people who don't like, or play RPGs and trying for the bigger pie. DAO got a big slice of pie and drew in people who wouldn't have normally played due to friends' word of mouth.

Thanks Angry! Though I forgot to add:

Silent protag, but barring that, if the interactive movie has to stay, then get rid of the paraphrase that has nothing to do with what comes out of my character's mouth (no more, "I'm a mage!" and that translates into "some of my friends are mages!" kind of crap).
Fix the UI to look more like DAO's and suited to the genre and not like it was ripped out of ME. Remind me this is a DA game, not have me have to remind myself that this isn't ME in medieval drag.
The UI really needs to say "fantasy" (old tomes, scrolls, you know, like DAO's).

Good additions to an already great list.

I would add that the UI needs some special care for the PC. Nothing complex, but consistent use of simple things where applicable like the "Esc"-key to cancel; "Enter"-key to confirm; the arrow keys, "Page Up", "Page Down", "Home", and "End" keys to navgate through lists; scroll bars that are big enough to control with a mouse; and a double click to select and confirm in lists.

I also like a dialogue log (like the one in DA:O). That way I can see what I have done in my last saved game or check whether I made a booboo somewhere.

I agree, but they have made it very clear that they don't want to and won't return to the Origins art style. Bioware thinks the game was the best but to make it look like that they have to constantly bash on the game that really was the best and that would be their award winning DAO.

Right on!  Great list btw.  I was one of those who would not have played Origins, but I saw the Ashes trailer, which captured that whole dragon slaying, magic casting, shield bashing, badass Grey Warden spirit (if not the actual feel) of the game; and purchased on very strong word of mouth.  I managed to convince 5 other shooter goons to play Origins and they were hooked.

We all hated DA2 and it was not because it was not Origins; it's simply because it was an absolute pretender in the action genre trying so hard to live off the capital of it's far superior predecessor, and it was boring and utterly without inspiration.  Mindless wave combat, Bosses with stupidly insane HP, exploding bodies, implants, lack of any meaningful choice or plot divergence, loss of inventory, loss of non-combat skills, and a dopey ME wheel, drug the game down firmly into the realm of mediocrity and made it far too easy to overlook for way better action games.  The way we see it, we may as well just stick with Mass Effect for our little "RPG" itch and wait for Bethesda's next Elder Scrolls or Fallout release.  At least ME's fun and you can actually make a few choices that can personalize the experience slightly.

Simply put, we loved Origins because it was NOT COD, GOW or HALO hyperactivity.  We actually got to take a long break from it all.  It stood on it's own and was ripe to actually grow an audience.  It was an experience.  DA2 was a disappointing drudgery.  It appears that Origins capital has been squandered in search of players like, well... me, (who were already on board, standing by, ready to convert the heathen that might be willing to try something new).

Regarding the data: you know, their data is probably not faulty, BUT their methodology of interpreting that data may well be crashing this franchise into the ground.  They are convinced they can find a "sweet spot;" I mean, they are true believers, judging by every comment I see from the good Doctors on down.  None quite so blind and closed off to criticism than true believers.  Either that, or they're in convinced denial; and that's not going to be pretty.

So my expectations?  Based upon every developer comment I see, up to and including this thread: well...I really don't have any.  They want to make action games.  They've as much as said they're going to do exactly as they want, despite significant fan backlash, and that's of course their right.  They have as much right to choose a bad direction, water down and dilute their product in search of a mythological audience and the lowest common denominator, and shrink their fanbase, as any other business.  We as consumers have our rights as well.

Amen man!! Before I started playing Origins, I was a big fan of Halo and COD and such. Then Origins came out and I've been hooked on RPG's since, I've converted many of my friends to the game from the Battlefeild community but warned them if they played DA2 not to expect anything similar to Origins. I'm actually getting one of my buddies DAO here pretty soon so he can start playing ^_^  I did a playthrough of Origins lately all the way through for a new import and went right into DA2 and I immediately can tell the difference....

I think I can agree with that list. But on the other hand it shouldn't be an exact carbon copy of Origins. If the STALKER series has proven anything is that a lack of change in sequels leads to stagnation.

Ya sadly the genre has taken a turn for the worst but there's no harm in hoping right =) plus this is just for what you would like to see in the next game even though over half of it won't be there hahaha

Yeah, for some it turned bad sooner than later. I didn't bother buying any of the strictly single player games they have been spewing out. Guess I knew early on where it was heading...

I must sadly agree.

Not gonna play it. I've been boycotting EA for years. I gave Bio a pass for a while but it's clear now that Bio has been assimilated. Every game is getting a little lamer, the tech support has been pawned off on EA, and the DLC is joke. A man's got to draw the line someplace. I'm drawing it here. ME2 is my last Bio game.

Goodbye Bio. It was a great run. Let me know when you get tired of being a part of the collective and start up a new studio somewhere else.
