I just downloaded Dragon age. Noticed it required .NET 2.0. Made sure I had .NET, I have .NET 3.5 . I tried to start up Forge but with no luck. Any suggestions on what I might be doing wrong? Do I need .NET 2.0 and not .NET 3.5? EDIT: A window pops up saying..."This application has failed to start because d3dx9_36.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix the problem. So I will re-install and see what happens. any suggestion?

But it's already BEEN posted, at least 'lebenty-seven times by now . . and not that hard to find, either, even with the awful Find offered on site. I'll bet it's even included in the round-up sticky, also.

It is on the solutions round up thread, which is why I generally just point people there. Raen has been very thorough.

Hi james,
strategy for errors of type "x.dll is missing":
1. put the name of x.dll as it's shown in the error message into google search2. you'll probably find x.dll, probably among the dlls at www.d3dx9.net/download-missing-d3dx9_36-dll/3. Download the according *.zip, unpack it, copy the contained dll into the same directory where the *.exe file of the program which was looking for this dll is located (the installation folder). You'll probably need admin rights for this. The program should look in its installation folder for needed dlls and find it then.(This can also be done by putting the dll into some other path (+ eventually setting environment variables) but I wouldn't recommend it.)
This works with wesnoth (and I found it to work with other unrelated programs too).

Similar to any stop-gap, incomplete type "quick fix", if one of the library files from Direct3D is missing, almost certainly others are as well, so the CORRECT manner to deal with the problem is the same as all of the archived answers, with a reinstall of Dx9, not this kind of mistaken idea, and you really should stop plastering this all over the forum as if it was a good idea. It is not.
Most message forums object to links in their members' posts because they may lead to sites that will attempt to plant malware, or contain poronographic material, or may in any way reflect upon the origin (here) and expose them to legal complications. Ruth's suggestion might have been innocent, or might have been straight site promotion. Any referral linkages should only be to known safe national (trusted) sites, not to at all to anyone we do not instantly recognize.
(Edit July 17th) Just when we identify one potential commercial spammer promoting a web site, along comes another. This needs to stop:

Again, Raen has included links to install DX9, Physx etc. in the Solutions Round-Up thread pinned to the top of this forum. There are very few issues with known solutions that aren't linked there.

Hello
I have searched over the net and found the missing d3dx9_36.dll file at:
http://dllcentral.com/d3dx9_36.dll/9.19.949.2111/
You can
download any missing or corrupted dll files for free from the above web site.
And also, if you are not sure why you are getting .dll error messages, you can
run a free scan by clicking at “Run a Free DLL Scan” link. The
error message you have posted here is due to missing d3dx9_36.dll file. Download the file from the link provided above to fix the error.
Please like the above solution if it fixes
your issue. J

This seems to be commercial spam promoting a particular web site's features. As such, it is contrary to the forum's Terms of Service agreement.

There are many legitimate sites providing links for missing dll files. However, I would avoid any site where their promotion links to services are more prominent than the file you may be looking for. Too often, I have seen sites offering replacement files for missing files while promoting "performance improvement" and other files or services and applications that do nothing for your computer performance and some that may install Trojans or malware.
If you need a specific dll file for something, I highly recommend going to the software developer's site as opposed to some third-party site for replacement. IN this case it would be Microsoft for DirectX files.
