I apologise in advance if this is the wrong place to post this as this is more a concern then a problem.

I own a copy of ME2 for the PC and have played it for over 500 hours
(and I remind you the game only works if the game DVD is inside the computer),
since I bought it in the 10th of february 2010. (what can I say, loved the game)
As I realise how much I played it I begin to wonder: "is the disk on which this game is about to... stop working?"
Bioware released the pc version on two dual layer DVDs (or at least I think they are dual layer) so this is my question in case someone here actually has an answer.
How many hours can I play this game before the game disk stops working.

Depends on many factors, such as drive spindle, laser strength, how you care for the disk etc.
Good news is tat even if the disk dies, you can register your game on Origins and use your existing product key to downlad and install the game that way.
You can also download a "fixed exe" from sites such as gamecopyworld.com to enable playing the game without the disk in the drive to prolong its life.

How do I register my game on Origins, and where do I need to use my existing product key to downlad and install the game.

Download the Origin program from EA here. After installing the program, log in with the same EA account you use here.  In the top right of the program window there will be a little gear symbol and a drop down menu just to the left of your email address.  Click that and select "Redeem Code".  Enter the registration key (the same one you entered here) and click continue.  The game will appear under the "My Games" tab as available for download.  You can do the same thing for any recent EA PC game.

As a quick note you will need to uninstall the game BEFORE you an register it with EA and dl. Then you will reinstall from Origin and NOT the Disk, because the dl'd version has the launcher that doesn't require the disk.

And, haven't several people run into minor "problems" with getting their Windows Registry cleared of the old physical install entries when they switched to the DL version? Seem to remember reading about some of those. Just cross your fingers and hope for the best, I guess... good luck.

If you encounter the problem with the registry not being cleared out properly with uninstall, either CCLeaner or Glary Utilities can fix that problem up. Great programs to have around for cleaning up after any sort of uninstall really.
