When I started the game all was well and fine. However lately there has been a sound issue. More specifically the 'Sound Effects' part of the sound. There is crackling and warping of the sound. Near as I can tell it only happens when more than one sound effect is trying to play. In addition whenever this happens the game itself tends to...hesitate? That is to say the graphics and such remain fine but the gameplay itself such as moving, attacking, etc. all seem to misstep or something.

I have a dedicated sound card, thought it's a tad dated (Sound Blaster Audigy). Sound works fine in everything else, and my computer meets the recommended specs.

Attempted Solutions:
Restarting the PC
Update Sound Drivers
Updating DX
Changing audio hardware acceleration
Purged temp files
Reinstalled 1.01B patch
Reinstalled VC++ redistributable

Anybody else having this problem? Any solutions?

I have played through to the circle tower without having this issue and then today when i started playing it started having issues, no idea what's causing it, nothing was installed during the interim so I'm not sure what could be the issue

do you have an on-board sound card or a dedicated? Also, are there any would-be solutions that you've tried that I haven't?

I have on-board sound, Realtek (which causes problems with a ton of games), they just updated their drivers today, I downloaded the update and now everything is working fine again

I am incredibly envious of you. I guess I'll have to hope for a patch or new drivers.

Have you tried setting your sound to 2-speaker and restarting the game? Worked for me when I had this problem with Batman and Red Faction

I've got exactly same problem, and nothing mentioned in this topic helped.

It would be nice if someone competent finally answered...

If you use any energy saving utilities that came with your motherboard, try turning them off. I know this fixes crackling sound on Gigabyte boards.

I'll keep bumping until there is a solution found....and yes, I think the people who are having the problem care.

I do not have any energy saving utilities. Nice thought though. Hopefully this will help some others. A question though, does this solve the crackling for an onboard card or dedicated? Both?

Thanks for the reply, by the way.

Count me in as having crackling sounds. So far only when stealthed, though.

Soundblaster card, not onboard.

Only when stealthed...that's interesting. I play a rogue so maybe the problem is started by a stealth sound issue?

I have an on board sound card, i havent tried anything new with the problem.

Note - this happened the same day i have a frame rate drop with Team Fortress 2, they might not be connected but its worth mentioning it.

Ah, for the on-board sound somebody recommended changing your hardware acceleration down to basic or even off.

Let me know if anything changes for you.

The hardware acceleration button is greyed out for me. Any other suggestions?
