I played DA2 during the first month but never made it to chapter 3 so I never finished the game due to other circumstances keeping me away from gaming.
What major changes have happened in updates (on Xbox 360)?
How balanced are classes for Hawke and party members now?
I think I'll start a new game file, which class would you recommend based on a) I remember not much (basically I'm new to DA2) and B) which will provide the most difference to how they where on release?
Is the Item Pack DLC worth it? Is one of the 3 mini packs worth it instead?

P.S. If it will help the class pick, I got almost every release day DLC, including Signature Ed. items, Hayder's Razor, Blood Dragom Armor, the Ser Issac Armor, the Irons, etc.
I would also like to keep Aveline in the party, as her character from what I remember is awesome. So unless 2 Weapon and Shield is very good, it may not be a good option for Hawke.

warrior is kinda ****ty (2h is really ****ty)
mage changes are lateral (unless you played sh/bm)
rogue is stupid, shadow/assassin, the previous best combo, has gotten even better, leaving the others in the dust

check my threads list, i made one listing and discussing the patch changes.

long story short - patch made the game nigh unbearable for me, but some people (...) enjoy it. it makes the game a TON easier overall.

Well some of the largest changes in 1.03 was reducing knockback, which made support especially DW rogues very powerful. DW hawk is a damage monster. Also they made bloodmage hp-mana conversion far less potential (0.25 hp rather than 1hp per item).

I do still enjoy playing a mage or archer, but the DW rogue is very popular at the moment.

I wouldn't spend money on items pack, but thats just me. Apparently they turn the game into easy mode, so I consider it to be cheating anyway.

I was skiming the Patch Notes and Patch Bug topics and noticed 2H Warriors are broken, in the literal sense of not working, mainly due to Sunder getting bugged and many small nerfs that acumulate to an overall big nerf. But I notied some slight boost to Tanking for WnS Warriors. My first impresion was that Warrior DPS was nerfed to bring back Rouges as top dog of DPS.

It's been 4 months + But apart from that, play on Nightmare if you think it's too easy...

If I wanted to take Aveline and Hawke as a WnS user, would it be effective? Is there enough gear for both?
With the patch changes, can I setup Hawke as a Damage off-Tank (I think Warrior Damage was nerfed in 1.03/1.02) and Aveline as main Tank?
who would you recommend as the other two party members? I was thinking Isabella/Varric and Anders.

i guess you could do it, the patch made the game so easy that you do whatever you want and still have some degree of success.

if you really really wanted to do it, i would take varric/seb and anders

How is archery now? I see DW is ridiculous now so how is the other side of the Rogue?
I heard Isabella has gotten better, why?
What are the overall thoughts on the changes to Mages, specifically all 3 specializations?
Due to limited button mapping on console versions, which class runs the best with 6 or less mapped actions?

Goldangit, I wanted to start a thread just like this one!

So ... not worth a new playthrough for the new DLC then? Shame nightmare got even easier from what I'm reading. :(

I'm no Nightmare junkie so I don't mind myself.

I liked my Archery run. High Criticals Shadow/Assassin. I'd sell off the Adder of Antivia because it feels over-powered in the early game. You can always get a good bow at the Black Emporium.

Archer is good, but irritatingly the bosses and lieutenants have % limit on damage at once. This means while DW roges can hit with both daggers for 40% or 80% damage, the archer is limited to 20% or 40% respectively. No more assassinate 1-shot-kill for archer.

I heard Isabella has gotten better, why?

No knockbacks for her and lacerate has become more powerful. Mostly the knockbacks, means she can run around without being interrupted constantly. I enjoy having aveline running bodyguard on isabela now and give them tactics to work together.

Blood Mage tree is different now. On the negative, you can no longer reach 8 mana-hp conversion ratio. Most can realisticlly get is 4.5. However now Grave Robber does good damage, and Blood Control lasts a half decent amount of time.

Spirit Healer is more powerful than before, with AoE and regen increases as part of the patch. I find the class fairly boring though since you cannot act offensively.

Force Mage is same as ever. I think they increased the damage of the Fist of the Maker, which it needed. However since knockback is less likely, the Unshackable skill is no longer necessary for a mage build.

Due to limited button mapping on console versions, which class runs the best with 6 or less mapped actions?

Sorry I run on PC.

Edit: Theoretically here, warriors run with the lowest amount of abilities. Rogues may use quite a few, but mage is the class that usually ends up with 10+ active abilities. Its perfectly possible to play any class with only 6 though.

Warriors can do well with 6 actions (3 from your basic attacks and the other 3 for cleave/spec). Rogues too. In fact you'll only have "problems" with mages, but who cares? Things will be exploding anyways.
