I just wanted to run my specs by you folks here in the forums and hope maybe you could let me know if my gaming performance with this game should be as it is.
System Specs:
Motherboard: Asus AN8 SLI Deluxe
CPU: AMD X2 4400+ Duel core
Ram: Mushkin PC 3200 DDR Ram 4 gig. (4x1 gig)
Video: EVGA 9800 GT 512
HHD: Western Digital 150gig x 2 Raid 0
OS: Windows 7 64 bit
Basically I have to the game on all low settings except i prefer to have 2x AA as the jagged is brutal. I run it at 1280x1024 as thats the default for my 19inch LCD monitor.
Suggestions? Is my CPU 939 pin just too old to be running this new kind of software?
Poor PC performance

Your CPU is the bottleneck.

Well, It turns out you are mistaken. It was infact the new ****ty patch they released. While i suspect people with fairly new hardware will have little to no problem running this game with any of the patches. For some reason with my specs if i install the new 1.01b patch i get unplayable video lag. Now when i reverted back to 1.00 I can literally max out everything including 8x AA, graphics and textures and get smooth gameplay. Go figure. Anyone else running an older system having similar issues and finding a solution by reverting back to the 1.00 patches?

Weird, the patch shouldn't effect the performance at all. It's mostly just difficulty tweak.

Based on the patch notes that is exactly what I thought as well. I even went as far as duel booting my computer to windows XP 64 bit as I suspected maybe it was just windows 7 having an adverse performance effect with my older hardware. But the exact same outcome resulted with running the game with the patches and without the patches. This is defiently not ideal and sadly seems to be isolated to people with older hardware as all the other posts i have seen there is quite afew replies with people running newer higher end stuff that is not being affected by the patch at all. Yet a few of us still are. So based on what I know i can only make a guess that it is related to older hardware. But who knows?

I'm using an Opteron 185 (dual core, 2.6 GHz), on an A8N-SLI Deluxe mobo, and am running Dragon Age as smooth as butter with all visual options as high as they can go. Win XP and a MSI N250GTS 1GB as well. In fact, I haven't played a game yet that I've felt the need to upgrade for.dep_prome wrote...

Don't think anything is 'bottlenecked' in his specs. A lot of people think they need some sort of cutting edge system to get the most out of their games, but an optimised system often gives the results you want. Not some quad core CPU that is barely used by current software.

Um Recomended Specs are Intel Core Duo 2.4 or = AMD Phenom Dual Core 2.7 or =.
Sys Req are Intel Core Single 1.6 or Amd Athlon 64 2.0 or =
I fail to see why his Processor is the Bottle Neck. There are Performance Issues with this game since release esp after so many hours of playing. There are Memory Leaks that have yet to be adressed esp with load times. I have also read it has some problems with Sys configs. The Problem is really Biowares not yours. The Patch never really fixed any performance issues.

ya, thanks for the responses everyone! i suppose we should not be too suprised that these types of bugs exsist thi is a brand spanking new game and it seems more people are running it with no issues then not. i am just happy that for the time being running v1.00 will allow my pc to run fine with all enchancements turned up. hopefully others who are facing this issue will have the same success as my self with this route. i do hope bioware does release an optimization patch in the future as it worries me to not be able to run a future patch that has more game changing fixes. which also may hinder the installation of future dlc. i suppose time will tell.

Can it be because your first installation was corrupt?

na, there are some rather weird issues with the game in general. A buddy and I notice the further you get through the game load times for maps get longer and longer... Also the longer you play straight the crappier it starts to run (on these older machines). I usually have to drop out of the game AND steam about once ever 3 hours during a long gaming stint.

It is possible but since I installed it on the same hardware but two different operating systems both being fresh installs make it unlikely. Recently got windows 7 and I installed windows XP 64 bit to verify it as well (intial thoughts were that it was windows 7 compatibility issues with either hardware or the game or a mix of the two being such a new OS) Both XP64 & windows 7 64 replicated the same problems and same solution for myself personally. Game runs smooth as butter everything turned up including 8x AA with patch 1.00 but suffers unplayable frame rate loss with the 1.01b patch. I believe the 1.01a patch was actually ok but just to be safe i run it at 1.00 right now.
