Is there a doctor in the house?
I love seeing these kinda threads pop up. When FTL drives are forgotten about and why every alien race can under stand each other and the fact that it's only been 25 some odd years since humanity discovered alien life and all are forgotten about, we turn to this.
I'm glad BW doesn't explain this stuff. If I had to go through a dialog with Mordin explaining Quarian physiology I think I would turn off the game.

4. Quarian immune systems were weak because most bacteria/viruses were at least partially beneficial, thus having a weaker immune system is actually an advantage. Couple that with a few hundred years on a sterile ship (and no symbiotic viruses to aid the body) and you get to the sickly Quarians you have today.

That makes no sense. The effectiveness of an immune system is not related to the number of symbiotic bacteria that live in humans. We have tons of bacteria living in our intestines and in our mouth. If they weren't there we'd be very sick.

Also, there is no such thing as a beneficial virus.

The bacteria/virus I mentioned is me paraphrasing, I can't remember the exact wording.

Still, we are talking about an alien world here.

(Not that I am trying to excuse any faulty science, I am only trying to clear up misunderstandings.)

It seems contradictory, on the surface, that the quarians apparently have a poor immune system but yet they get obvious immune reactions to infections. However I think the problem is that the quarien immune system is just poor at actually fighting infections and while the symptoms and fighting infection are present, it has major issues actually completing the job. So adding immuno boosters and anti boitics would help Tali because they would help make sure the immune system can get the job done. It would lessen the symptoms of fighting the infection because the because the infection would be around for a significantly lesser amount of time.

Couple of things wrong here.

1. Quarians do have immune systems.

2.Quarians immune systems have always been weaker than the average species.

3. There are NO insects on the Quarian home planet.

Ah, thanks Nashiktal! I have always been a bit fuzzy on the 'exact' details of the Quarian immune system and how it works (or doesn't work, as the case may be).

Ah, yes. I guess you are referring to that fact that the "bacteria on their planet helped their immune system, and so didn't need as strong immune systems as other races where bacteria was more of a hinderance". (I am beginning to see how the story all fits together now!)
