Stanley Kubrick!

Oh, wait :(

Probably James Cameron or Peter Jackson, though I'd love to see Duncan Jones' take on the Mass Effect universe. Ridley Scott would be epic, but unlikely. Perhaps Tim Burton or Christopher Nolan. Long as Uwe Boll and Miachel Bay aren't let near and a decent director does it though, I'm happy.

Also @ suggesting Clint Eastwood...I love him as an actor and a director, but I don't think Mass Effect would be the best thing for him to direct. Though if he does what he did with Gran Torino and Million dollar baby and stars, if it were to be as Udina I'd have no objections. :D

On M. Night Shyamalan, he's not a bad director, he just has a string of bad films and films with wasted potential. When he does things right, you get films like the sixth sense a d signs. When he does them wrong, you get films like the last airbender and the happening. Unfortunately, I wouldn't be willing to risk him as a director.

Although, I'm not gonna be watching this one. I'll still say Bowie's "son" Duncan Jones.

Duncan Jones or maybe Christopher Nolan. As long as it's not Uwe Boll the movie got a chance to be decent

first of all, if its going to be made, they MUST put some money on it or it will suck as hell, no matter who they put to direct it.
the genre of the story is the kind of which a load of movies have been made, few directors have proven to be good...

now by looking back to some sci-fi movies maaaaaybe i'd love to see a creation from these guys
Christopher Nolan (Inception, The Prestige, Dark Knight, Memento)
Ridley Scott (no need to quote movie titles!)
maybe James Cameron
and maybe J.J. Abrams

My first choice? Kathryn Bigelow.

As for other candidates, Tarsem Singh is an impeccable stylist. I would like to see Mary Harron get back to feature films as well, and she could definitely do something interesting with the source.
Spike Jonze? Possibly...
I haven't seen any of Duncan Jones' films yet, but I have it on good authority that they are excellent, so that sounds like a good pick too.

But being the cynic that I am, I think it'll probably end up being someone like Louis Leterrier, McG or Zack Snyder.

A Canadian should direct it. Who better than Brad Anderson? The Machinist, The Wire, and Fringe all under one belt.

Chris Nolan , Duncan Jones, JJ Abrams, David Fincher, Danny Boyle

Seem to be able to put something out there.

Cohen brothers and Tim Burton are good in their own way, but not for Mass Effect.
Wachowski brothers can kiss my butt...

Ridley Scott .... in his day he was good, but Alien, Blade Runner, Gladiator are a long time ago.

James Cameron .... god... I'd put him up there with Micheal Bay ... I hate everything James Cameron has done since True Lies.

But my bet's are on Paul W.S Anderson..... which is sad news... It's almost as bad as uwe boll.

Irvin Kershner, although dead, was the first director I thought of when reading this thread title though not the best choice by far.

Joss Whedon is definitely my mainstream choice.

Although I wouldn't hate to see Jon Favreau take a stab at it. I also enjoy some of Guy Ritchie's films. Perhaps neither would be good for the franchise, but while I don't hate many of the names being thrown around, scrolling down and seeing nolan/abrams/scott in every post is making the conversation a little stale.

Edit: Spelling Errors and an "I second that" to stewie1974 on his opinion of Cameron.

Ridley scott late 70's through  2001 maybe... but in the last 10 years it's been nothing but crap. He made some master pieces... but he's made more stinkers.

^ THIS

It amazes me the credit Scott has. He made TWO great films, at the start of his career, and has been very irregular since them, IMHO he has more bad films than good ones.

I don´t want Cameron. He has to film Battle Angel Alita after Avatar is done.

Nolan could be interesting.

Kingdom of Heaven. Robin Hood, Gladiator, Black Hawk Down, American Gangster all awesome Ridley Scott films

I'm undecided on Zach Snyder. He has a knack for adaptation, but has so far failed at characterization. He's too broad and over-dramatic to do nuance. Sucker Punch was a disaster, and Watchmen was a hollow adaptation. Superman will make or break him, either way he won't be available for Mass Effect.

I thought Watchmen was great, his moviecraft and the way he used every possible tool available to a driector was spot on. Sucker Punch was very good as well, only real disapointment was that the opening scene was so brilliant it overshadowed the rest of the movie and the ending kind of broke the main theme of the movie. Didn't know he was taking on superman, very disapointed. IMO that is the one of the worst stories and characters in history, and alrady been done several times.

Besides, Sheppard roundhouse-kicking a reaper in the face? I'd pay to see that!

Just a little film called Blade Runner.  And Alien.

My vote goes for Ridley Scott or Bryan Singer (director of X-Men, X2).  Both plausible.  While I'd love to say Nolan or Cameron, it's not realistic.  I'd love for Michael Mann (director of Heat, Public Enemies, Collateral, The Insider), but he doesn't have any sci fi pedigree.  I think Mann's style would fit ME universe the best, and he always has an awesome soundtrack.

Joss Whedon is perfect for this type of game. He could also add some humor into the characters that is sorry lacking in such a serious game.

Other then that. Zack Snyder would be good. But I don't know if he would 1. Willing to do it 2. Be able to do a good job on a low budget.

Thats why I prefer Joss as my #1 choice. You know he could do a good job on a low budget.

Some of these guys you are throwing out there Bay, Cameron, etc. Only pretty much do films at this point with 120+ budgets. Thats not happening with this movie. It wouldn't surpise me if the budget was less then 60 million.
