And the Turians were highly skilled as well, outnumbered him at least 3-1, had armor, and guns. Kai Leng is a killer but you would have to be a Geth prime to just win that fight the same way he did.Saphra Deden wrote...

He knew where to hit them, how to take advantage of a situation, and he's a trained killer. Did you forget that? He's not just some average joe.
Whatever the case, I'm certain nothing will convince you and I don't care.
I find the books enjoyable. If you don't, that's fine. I'll admit the books aren't classy, they are video game tie-ins after all.
Though I guess nothing will convince you either so Im done.

Kai Leng (the Cerberus assassin from ME:Retribution) has been confirmed for a while now as a character that will confront Shepard in ME3. Further, he showed up in the Game Informer Mass effect 3 cover story, and looks like a Dark Jedi of some sorts (and also fights as well as one, as he was an N7 agent and killed a Krogan in hand to hand combat, along with a squad of Turians). Kai Leng, also being part of the organization you will have to fight, Cerberus, and TIM's right hand man, sounds like he is going to have at the very least a mini boss like appearance.
So my question is, what do you think will be Kai Leng's significance in ME3? Will he just be another random dead body between you and the end of the game?Or will he be a better than Saren like nemesis that shows up throughout the game to thwart your efforts, and clash with you in a one on one fight between two very capable N7 marines who are ideologically polar opposites: Shepard versus Dark Shepard? Personally, I'm rooting for the later, as it would be a shame to have his awsomeness built up in retribution,, knocing out Anderson, killing a Reaper Avatar, and killing a bunch of turians, and being transformerd into an ME sith lord, only to have him be some random enemy. In any case, please share your oppinions on the matter.

Kai Leng did not defeat the reaper avatar. Anderson took it down with a shotgun round in the back. Kai Leng simply fired two shots into the skull after it was down and dying. He killed a presumably unarmored krogan in a bar fight with a molecular blade which isn't that impressive for an N7. Let's not forget that if left with to his own merits he would have failed and been killed in Retribution. I'll give him points for physical fitness, the will to escape and survive. And I'm sure he's the best TIM has at his disposal, but he never quite seemed "Shepard level" badass to me.

Sometimes you need to shout your brain off and just enjoy what's happening. If you're still playing ME even after all its incosistinces and impossibleness then complaining about having one dude take down a small squad of Turians should be the least of your annoyances.Quole wrote...

I mean christ it's a video game (book) for crying out loud. I think you checked out on 100% believablity when you opened it up and started reading.

as for kai... i would rather see an epic hand to hand cut scene fight instead of him as a mini boss because lets face it, that does nothing to show off the combat skills of either fighter... i want to see kai die in the most extraordinary way possible after a bad ass fight of course

Hopefully hes barely in ME3 because his character was incredibly retarded. I actually facepalmed when reading the part of the novel where he somehow manages to kill a squad of turians. What BS.
Yeah, because nobody could ever kill a squad of turians. That's just BS.
You ever see a turian in-game? They're impossible to kill.
Anyway, I'd like for him to be presented as a sort of rival for Shepard, assuming we can't have him as a squadmate.
Maaann...That last Book moved wwwaaayyyy....tttoooooo.....ssssllllllooooww....

I didn't I was using that as an example of Shepard's strength and durability. Combine that with N7 training and eventual experience in close quarters combat as a Spectre makes him a force to be reckoned with.MisterJB wrote...
He punched and the Yahg punched back. Then they pushed each other.
Don't compare that to actually being good at hand to hand fighting.
Maybe but the whole point is that Shepard is at a point in his life where he can fight someone like Kai Leng and it won't be one sided for any of them.True but it's entirely possible that Shepard didn't do so well in unarmed combat as Leng.
Shepard isn't just strong or some brute who relies on strength. Like I've been saying Shepard has likely been pretty well trained in close quarters combat. Hell his speed and reflexes has been incredibly enhanced by the upgrades you can get and the Lazarus project. Shepard was already deadly and he had faced a Reaper enhanced foe before. Leng won't be a push over but Shepard would beat Leng.Sorry, what?
You're refering to when Shepard knocks out Wrex?
Well, we know that Shepard has insane strength. Punching out two fully armored guards proves it.
But it's Shepard's strength versus Leng's speed and skill and it's possible that Leng has enhanced strength now as well. My money's on Leng.
Story Demands it.

The Turians were trained soldiers who were experienced in long range combat and some CQC when possible. Kai Leng was once part of the N7 marines some of the best the Alliance has to offer. He also had extra training and experience fighting with Cerberus and in Assasinations. To be honest Kai Leng is supposed to be near the level of people llike Thane when it comes to close quarter fighting and to be honest if you give Thane a knife in that situation he would cut through those Turians like butter.

The problem with Kai Leng's character is that they make incredibly human centric and out right xenophobic to other species for no real reason.
What reason does he need other than growing up on Earth and having xenophobic parents and peers in the military?
I like his xenophobia because it makes for interesting scenes to read, like when Aria spots him in Afterlife just by the way he avoids the aliens.
That's why I want him as a squadmate. He'd be a lot of fun.

He isn't really just xenophobic but psychotic about it. In some ways he's worse then TIM. At least TIM finds the useful ness in aliens. Kai Leng just would rather all of them be exterminated. Hell he takes great pleasure in killing them when ever he gets the chance.
Growing up racist or xenophobic is different. Even xenophobes have limits. Kai Leng's hate seem to be a mixture of his peers being xenophobes and something horrible happening to him.
Edit: Also Kai Leng was likely not a squad mate for either one or two reasons
1) He is to xenophobic to the point that working with aliens would cause him to jeopardize the mission.
2) Thane already fulfills his role as badass Assassin.

As for his xenophobia and its origins, who knows. It could be that the krogan incident is what made him a xenophobe. The krogan picked a fight with him and save face the Alliance railroaded him behind bars. That might be the source of his hatred.

I'm talking about ME2. If Kai Leng could have been a squadmate it would have been during ME2 when Cerberus wasn't trying to kill you.Saphra Deden wrote...
Thane isn't going to be a squadmate so point 2 is irrelevant. Point 1 is up in the air. As I said I think his xenophobia is precisely why he should be a squadmate. He would add some internal conflict for Shepard's side, which is needed. It's fun.
That wouldn't make much sense. It was on Omega the ****** pot of the Galaxy, No one really likes Krogan and unless the krogan was Aria's lover there would be no point in the Alliance trying to save face. Also plenty of humans have killed aliens and got screwed over by them in worse ways hell Zaeed is a good example of that and he doesn't really care what race you are as long as you don't ****** him off.As for his xenophobia and its origins, who knows. It could be that the krogan incident is what made him a xenophobe. The krogan picked a fight with him and save face the Alliance railroaded him behind bars. That might be the source of his hatred.
There would have to be a better explanation for his psychopathic tendencies towards Aliens if he will be someone like Saren. Saren's xenophobia is understandable and he was already pretty much an **** to everyone even before his brother died.

ME3's version of Miranda.
Kai Leng: Shepard did everything wrong ... (no matter what Shepard did).
or
He'll slit Liara's throat, bust Garrus's cranium and say mean things to Tali, thereby decimating Shepard's alien crew members.
Seriously, I'm hoping he will be a mini-boss ala Calo Nord.

He could just be another Legion.
Kai Leng: Cerberus is nuts, yo! They're all indoctrinated. TIM isn't indoctrinated and he sent me to help you.

I'm pretty sure that Kai Leng landed the final blow, but yeah, Anderson did most of the work, almost getting torn apart by a powerful Reaper biotic warp, so I guess Kai Leng is sort of a douch for stealing someone else's kill (another reason why I want to fight him, as I HATE it when people steal my kills).
As for Shepard level bad @ssery, yeah, Kai Leng can't compare to Shepard in his previous form, but if the concept art stays similar, and Kai Leng is modified with Reaper tech (or someother cyborg tech, as he clearly isn't just a normal human anymore) then he may be good enough to be a decent nemisis, although you are right, no one is as awsome as Shepard.
