I'm gonna go with a tie...

Nintendo's Wii U announcement was pretty terrible. Not only because they did a terrible job on the announcement, and naming it...but also because, I don't want to buy another Nintendo console so I can play 1 game a year. They should only make software...and leave the consoles up to everyone else.

That there would be no Descent Freespace 3. VERY sad...considering it was left on a gigantic cliffhanger. I'm gonna get rich...and purchase the rights to the series...so I can figure out what the hell was going on. Also, buy the rights to Firefly, and reproduce it as a CGI series (so that it can be voiced by the same cast, even though they'll all be old)

I've only really been an active gamer since about '07, so I haven't had much bad news come my way.

I'd have to say that the worst news I've heard was that Alpha Protocol didn't sell well enough to get a sequel. I wasn't necessarily so sad that there would be no AP2, because AP wrapped up the story fairly well, but I was more saddened to hear that this game I loved so much had earned such negative financial feedback.

When game developers announce that a popular game franchise will be turned into a film, then unload the film rights to some corporate cashin-fest that have never even played the games, whose sole experience of gaming was maybe playing Tetris once back in the 80’s.

Hopefully when the NES version of Ultima outsells the PC version 2 - 1 at least despite many NES gamers not having had exposure to the prior installment Richard Garriot will join other sensible publishers and developers like Nintendo, Atari and soon in realizing that PC gaming is a relic of the past and that consoles are the future.

I bet someone said this EXACT same thing 20 years ago.
Ironic some people refuse to see the obvious.

Yeah because digital distribution and file sharing was more rampant back then.

Wanna know how EA got into the business?  They stole Sega's system and reworked it as their own and told them they'd sale it for cheaper if they didn't let them in on the genesis (this is why Madden and EA started on there)
Stealing has been around since the dawn of civilization.  People stole other people's plays back in the rennesaince.  Digiital distribution is just a faster way to do it... Sheesh.

I agree.  It's no big deal at all that stealing is now easier and can be done with complete anonymity and lack of consequences.  Stealing has been around for a while so therefore it's no big deal, how profound.

I never seen anything wrong with that, minus that damn Wind Waker. Plus its Nintendo. Whats next you'll be saying why hasn't Mario Matured? I mean really, how can you "Mature" those 2 titles, 90% of the time I hear any gamer say that it means throw on buckets of blood, sex and cursing. And how in the hell did all of that even become "Mature"? I mean Adult yes, but not mature. Blah why they need to change the M to an A on the ratings. If porn's on TV they rate and call it "Adult" and not "Mature" as well really, its not. Thats like saying a getting ****** pants drunk is more Mature than wine tasting or some such.

Anyways minus that rant.  The Wii being made, as well as the Kinect, the dry up in RTS titles, the horror that is Duke Nukem Forever, played the Demo...so chessy and boring I'm so passing on that game. Go back to the roots if you make another, please. Project Dolphin getting canned in favor of the GC (It originally would have been just an add on to the N64, CD based but making use of the expansion pack of the N64. giving both titles a longer life) No hope of seeing a remake of FF7 or LoD it seems. Everytime I hear the new prices for a new system and its games. Sure there are others.

I usually don't get disappointed about gaming news, at least I can't think of anything that disappointed me, except when I found out that CDProjekt was not going to allow Steam pre-order customers to download and pre-install Witcher 2 early, because they wanted to do an exclusive promotion with GOG.

I had pre-ordered Witcher 2 on Steam back in December 2010 primarily because I thought I would be able to pre-load and start playing at midnight on the release date.

The aforementioned death of SNK. For years they produced some of my favorite fighting and action games. They squeezed every last drop out of the Neo Geo platform, and even in its later years managed to make those graphics competitive at the arcade.

Although SNK did eventually resurface, it does not feel like quite the same company it used to. The lack of a unified development platform for their games, and a shift in direction to an anime inspired art style hurt them. Everything from graphics, to music and design just feels lacking compared to their older work.

meh i had a dreamcast back in 2000/2001, can't say i was surprised at the news of them withdrawing from the console business... piracy was rampant, people bought dreamcasts just to pirate games, and the console and its games were getting about as much attention as the PS3 got in 2007, which is to say for every person interested in a dreamcast there were about a dozen people interested in a ps2
