Hmm I was wanting a Dreamcast myself, but allas it wasn't ment to be. I think in part Sega taking so long is what bit them in the ass, as I could still find NEW Sega (Gen. that is) games when it was coming out.

Similar to others here.

Cancellation of certain games I would have loved to play (e.g. Starcraft Ghost).

Acquisition of great companies by EA (Westwood, Bioware, as notable examples)

Announcement of games that should never have been made (Halo 4 comes to mind most recently)

Probably couldn't pin one of them down as being the worst ever. Most are equally bad.

the cancellation of Fallout: Van Buren. I can't help but think how diffirent things would be if Van Buren were enough of a hit to keep Black Isles from going under

Also: the aquisetion of Bioware by EA, 10 years from now Bioware will be Black isles and EA will be interplay, mark my words, that is the road we're taking.

You got it wrong. Interplay Studios was the idiot company that back Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel instead of Fallout: 3 (Van Buren). They deserved to go under, but Black Isle Studios didn't deserve to die out because of that idiot company's mistake.

I guess like some people I'd say the worse gaming news was the death of Black Isle Studios, Interplay making a Fallout MMO, Bethesda making Fallout: 4 (not confirmed yet, though), the death of Troika, and the making of Metal Gear Solid: Rising (totally unnecessary).

Worst gaming news: This is a choice for me between no news about System Shock 3, no news about Homeworld 3  and no news about Elite IV.  The world needs these games now, and done proplerly of course

The fact that there isn't a Baldur's Gate 3: The Black Hound, or a Planescape 2 or Arcanum 2, or another Vampire the Masquerade game. Damn, I really really miss games that have never been made.

That Gary Gygax died. Blizzard merging with activision (back when I played WoW). Metal gear solid 4 was for the Playstation 3 only. BioWare being bought by EA.

This^ and I almost feel a sense of cognitive disonnance; I also feel sad about BI and Interplay, while I also like your post. Ahh, those were tha days, and Obsidain isn't close to being the team that was then.
