Things are less racist these days, you can keep the 70's.

I would argue that they are even MORE racist.  Think of all the hate for Israel and the millions of people that grow up and are taught to hate them.

The morals are going straight down the toilet, along with everything else good about the human race.  Things need to get worse before they get better, but I am very worried.

You are right.

I can find VERY few who aren't ****s.   The ones who aren't are usually within my own religion, LDS.

We are going to face the biggest economic collapse ever and people still think our generation is boring...

What's more sad is that they are the virgins of aedirn.. Em what i mean they are mere teenagers and are blinded by fake love as matured men's puppet and sex slave.

Yes, that's the crux of it really, isn't it?  The appreciation of music is (almost) entirely subjective.  It is entirely possible for one person to believe the quality is deteriorating over time, whilst another feels it has never been better.

My own personal highs and lows through the various eras aren't really relevant for that reason.  Suffice to say, and perhaps I should have phrased things more this way originally, to my tastes, the quality of music has deteriorated over time.

Well, the social scientists tell us that our tastes don't really come from ourselves anyway; they're essentially a reaction to our position in society and what the relevant peer group is listening to.

According to one theory our musical tastes freeze at age 14. I figure that's a bit early. But you can hear the discussion for yourself on this episode of Soundcheck.

Individual differences matter too. For example, some people might reject what their peers do instead of accept it. That's not to say that society doesn't play a major role, but there are internal motivations at play too.

Even if the Arabs may have gotten worse, we've certainly gotten better. Much better. Hell, when I was a kid it was a major achievement to get a ****** (they weren't African-Americans yet) and an Asian on the bridge of a sci-fi starship.

Actually, from where I sit all aspects of morality have drastically improved over the past four decades. The racial, women's, and gay rights movements have reached a near-total victory, to a degree that would not have been imaginable when I was born.

Edit: come to think of it, didn't your church make a bit of progress on this front too? The black part, that is.

Oh, sure. But rejecting what your peers do is still dependent on what those peers are doing. To be really independent you have to be completely indifferent to those peers.

If that is so, then it's not a rule without exceptions - my own musical tastes have changed significantly since my teen-years, and I find that they've developed somewhat even in the last five years or so of my life (I'm 35).

Also, the music I listen to is not the same music my group of closest friends listen to at all. I guess that the variation there also has to do with the importance placed on  music in the peer-group that you are a part of. In my particular group of friends, music doesn't matter very much to more than a couple of us.

No political threads, please.

End of line.
