Now that it seems like The Illusive Man and Cerberus are full blown antagonist in ME3 instead of allies, can a pure renegade be a hero?

So there's no way of joining Cerberus near the end of the game? Btw, does TIM die in the leaked script?

No to joining Cerberus and the best character in the series has several ways to end up like Saren did at the end of ME1.

Sounds lame :/

So is Shepard forced to kill TIM or are there other options (e.g letting him go or turning him in)?

Other than taking out TIM there's him succeeding in killing Shepard and/or Anderson. He's Grayson 2.0 at that point.

^Oh dear, TIM turning into some monstrosity was what I feared might be in the game, but I kept telling myself that the writers wouldn't resort to such silliness. Guess I was wrong. (facepalm)

You really need to read the docs for yourself bro.  You won't fully grasp just how much the story reads like a self-parody and a troll hack job by a Paragon jack off with a huge chip on his shoulder against Cerberus/Renegade until you do.

I especially the backstory of the Jacob mission, with those idealist scientists.

'Every time one of us finished our project... they disappeared.'

'We didn't know the real face of Cerberus.'

Really, Bioware? Not only are you going to have Cerberus turn into the sort of beast that just wipes out its own best minds rather than give them a new task... but they'll be so incompetent as to not even arrange a 'transfer' first?

Did we mention how David conveniently dies if he's kept in Project Overlord because he "loses the will to live" or that Conrad Verner joins Cerberus?

Oh, the handling of ME1 choices was atrocious, no doubt about that. Worst part of the story-telling.

I don't know about killing the Rachni getting you support from the Council, but it would have made an excellent justification for in-ME2 support from Noveria. Some Noveria Exec: Hey, Shepard, thanks for saving our ass. Here's 3k of each resource to help you out.

The Feros colonist decision was badly played in general, because it's actually easier to use grenades than not... even though killing them outright was supposed to be 'our own safety first' mentality.

I think Saphra came up with a good idea that, during the finale with the Thorian itself, any colonists you 'knocked out' would come back and attack you during the boss fight. So you'd fight them and kill them any way, but the sense of the battle would be changed (did you struggle to save them, or ruthlessly put them down at your first point?).

It would have made for an easier narrative carry-over into ME2 (the only difference being whether you tried or not), and simplified design. Elizabeth should have been the cameo person as well.

Shiala would have made an ideal 'save this person for bad effects later' choice: the only real reason you have to trust her is her own word, after all.

Well, when the Council faced the Rachni, there was no communication, only war.  Having a sentient Rachni Queen (who they can't even pretend to understand the motives of) running around should make the current Council exceptionally worried, if nothing else.  Destroying such a possibility should be a relief off of their shoulders.  If Noveria was to give you resources, I'd imagine it'd be based on who you put into power there; the Salarian would give you more while the Turian would give you less (or none at all).  Similar to how you could meet that undercover cop again.

I partially agree with you about Feros; if nothing else, sparing a few colonists to study the Thorian mind control via spores (you can test more with a living subject than a dead one, after all) is a good idea.  But I'm going off rails, aren't I?  I agree, that would have been more tragic.

Shiala should have been put into Alliance custody, I mean, how can they let her get away with that?  So you could spare her, where she's put into custody and later goes back to aid Feros (which harms relations with the Asari; I doubt they'd enjoy a rival having a rather subservient commando) or you've killed her (no change in relation with the Asari, no potential backfire, justice is served).  Then again, I almost certainly would have taken her as a party member on some of my Sheps if there was an option; she's a trained commando who knows of the Reapers and has already aided you against them.  She's also the only other being (aside from Saren) with the Cipher.  And then we can have an existential crisis with her and the Thorian Clones... good times. ~_^

Wait, wait, Conrad... David... what... O_O

Yep, take head canon out of the equation and ME becomes little more than a Star Wars-esque fairy tale in space with a light/dark side morality system and a conversation simulator.

If it only were that good. In KotOR you can take over the flipping Galaxy. Makes all those DS points worth it.

Conrad Verner joins Cerberus? TIM turns into some Reaper-monster? When hearing about that and seeing the cheezy romance lines in the Tali thread, I'm almost convinced the script is a hoax. There is no way the ME3 story is going to be this asinine.

I refuse to believe that Bioware is sinking so low. Yes Bioware has had issues with black/white morality in past games, but it was never this ridiculous. And usually they have given their villains redeemable qualities (Sarevok, Aribeth, Revan, Loghain, hell even the Archdemon). This just does not fit their style.

He doesn't turn into a reaper-monster but he might as well be one with the way he acts.

When you said Grayson 2.0 I was envisioning TIM all decked out in reaperesque augmentations.

Okay, this should be good. What redeemable qualities did the Archdemon have?
