Mass Effect has you working together with their Sith expy for a full game and most of the DLC, allows you to agree with and aid the current "Dark Lord" and his goals... then has them pull a 180 because there are no other possible villains left while the galaxy is crumbling? You'd think that just the glowies would be more than enough, perhaps together with a multispecies Reaper "cult" of sorts to have an enemy with a face as well, with a couple of mercs slowing your progress from time to time.

Presumably they didn't want to create an entirely new personal foe for the last game in the trilogy. I personally agree with that.

That's part of the problem, Cerberus was never a personal foe, at least not for alot of players.  Even for the most rabid paragon they were quite the help in many ways.

They were. They don't need you anymore. That's how Cerberus rolls. It's no change in their character.

Since when are you treated like an idolized perfect hero by that much of the galaxy even if you are Paragon? The Council distrusts you, the Alliance abandons you, advertisers try to bilk you... Shepard doesn't even bring it up all that often.[quote]
Turian Merchant: Shepard, the hero of the citadel!

It's also mentioned in reports and by vairous other aliens about how much more distrustful aliens treat humans due to the events as well.  All the issues paragons have to deal with are still issues renegades have to deal with as well.  A renegade ending in ME1 has the council not meeting you due to believing you would only place humanity first.  The Alliance still doesn't help you at all.  You're still scrutinized for abandoing the council even if you did so to try and save as many lives as possible.

It it that they don't need you, or you don't need them?  That would be a fun twist.  If Cerberus is after Shepard because Shepard betrays them.

Turian Merchant: Shepard, the hero of the citadel!

True, some people like Shepard. Just not all.

As well you should be. Why is it a problem for being scrutinized for abandoning the Council?\\

It it that they don't need you, or you don't need them? That would be a fun twist. If Cerberus is after Shepard because Shepard betrays them.

True, but it'd be even worse for those people who like Cerberus for some reason.

Like is too strong a word for my tastes.  But respect, for all they've done for Shepard, and against the Reapers, and for the defenseless human colonies in the Terminus, I don't think that's out of line.

I might, if they did any of that for its own sake or because they actually cared about humans as people instead of just game pieces.

Don't hate, participate!

If ME3 has Cerberus turning into some weird n*zi parody, why not just go all in and embrace that?  Fellow fans, get down wit' yo' spacen*zi self!

It's not like any notion so ridiculous deserves to be taken seriously anyway. So why not have fun with the joke, even if it was unintentional?  'Cause if you can't beat 'em, join 'em.  And if you can't laugh with 'em, laugh at 'em.

That's part of the problem; you can't join the spacenazis even if you wanted to.

How is that ridiculous? You can't call the ****s unrealistic when they actually existed.

I was actually referring more to the "fellow fans" who'll take the "Cerberus are badguys" plotline seriously.  It seems to me that any value in that way of thinking is purely comedic, by way of unintentional parody.

The issues surrounding extremist racial or political movements are both highly complex, and highly emotional.  Glossing those issues over, or (worse) trying to shoehorn groups or characters into those roles to try and make a lame point is very much ridiculous.

I could've sworn Retribution basically says that when TIM no longer needs a partner, he shoots them on sight.

Why does he have to sound like a mustache villain?

I'd be more inclined to worry about this if the whole Alliance was like this. However, small extremist groups like this are way more common than governments; the whole world is riddled with them. Cerberus simply has powerful allies and deep pockets.

So because you feel aggrieved by a plot, you'll start disdaining those people who like it?

He can't grow a mustache, so he's compensating by acting like he already has one.

That alone makes them worthy of more adroit handling.
