Meh. I am not setting my hopes up for a decent role. I pretty much expect TIM to be ME's equlievant of "First enchanter Orsino" or rather "I am going to turn bad now because the plot demands it".

The problem with that is that the plot never demanded he turned bad. Cerberus being an enemy in ME3 is completely nonsensical. At least on the surface. I'm still not very optimistic that Bioware will explain it in a clever way.

TIM has my support. I strongly hope Bioware doesn't go with:
- TIM is indoctrinated
- TIM is just EVILLLLLLLLLL

TIM is supposed to represent the best and worst of humanity, not some 2D bad guy.

If they end up doing that to my favorite character in the franchise I'll flat out consider the game non-canon. I'm willing to give Bioware the benefit of the doubt over the fighting against Cerberus railroading but that would be too much to bare.

That sadly isn't out of the question.

I
am personally expecting either "TIM IS INDOCTRINATED!!one! LOL" or "TIM
is the new Saren". The former is dull and predictable, the second is
dumb and out-of-character.

I'm still scratching my head over why the Batarians aren't the ME3 Reaper proxy. The Arrival DLC made it seem like they'd be the major non-Reaper enemy in ME3.

Well like I said before the naive hopeful person in me keeps hanging onto the possibility that a lot of those Cerberus enemies we've seen in ME3 are actually batarians. The masks certainly look like batarian ones. It'd be a clever media campaign on Bioware's part.

I'm sure it won't be the case... but I can still dream.

Yeah, I'm hoping they're Batarians too (either Hegemony or Aria's goons).

As long as he's not just indoctrinated. I really hate that plot device.

I'm really hoping TIM ends up being the Loghain of ME3. Good intentions, screws things up, but ends up being the secret companion.

Or ends up getting his head sheared off by a vengeful elf.

TIM is one of my favourite characters in the Mass Effect universe. I really hope he doesn't turn out to be a generic villain. It's possible that he's not the one after Shepard, maybe he has been overthrown. TIM as a squadmate would be the greatest thing ever.

Also, I would love to have an option to have sex with him. C'mon, it's hatesex!

He wanted the collector base for himself and it ticked TIM off when Shepard blew it up.  And he lost Lawson over it too.

The more I think about the conversation between TIM and Miranda at the very beginning of the game.  Where TIM told Miranda to not lose Shepard.  This was before the Normandy blew up.  The more I think about the more I am starting to think TIM set the Normandy up.

When it comes to antagonist characters, TIM plays the role beautifully. Martin Sheen's voice carries the character perfectly with a subtle all knowing and saying little feel. He's a character I love to hate. He's quite possibly the most intriguing and ignominious character in the story.
I would love a boss battle with him. Something Shadow Broker style where you have to use different ways to bring him down.

It would be nice to be able to reconcile with TIM rather than only facing him as an enemy.

0.02 to a few things (albeit a week late):

@Arijharn: It is Shepard's story arch after all. Depending on what direction the series takes, he could possibly live. I'm currently thinking more along the line that he will be killed off in ME3, if only due to the possibility that Bioware is taking a certain stance with Cerberus.

@Repearized Miranda: On a side note, a Martin Sheen/The Illusive Man avatar would be rather amusing. I'm just not that great with Photoshop.

@ashlover mark 2: I'm not sure that would bring about a sense of closure or coming full-circle, especially to anyone that appreciates T.I.M. as a character. It would really boil down to it being a rehash of plot and a cop-out. A few of us have (jokingly) mused on the idea of T.I.M. being Indoctrinated in the past (as you can see in the above replies.) That being said, we've seen it coming from a mile away, sadly.

DA2 Spoiler

People short change that thing in DA2, the guy cracked under the pressure, it happens. There are lots of ways to make Cerberus the bad guy without it just being nonsensical, the simple fact that you must win this war, no matter how nonsensical that may or may not be, you cant lose. The audience has made it perfectly clear that losing would mean that playing these games were a waste of time. So going from that, they could take an approach of America after WW2, rising to a dominant superpower.

That is what TIM's scheme could be, to make it where when the dust settles, that humanity sits unchallenged on top. It would make perfect sense, it fits with Cerberus' ideals and there would be a power vacuumn at the conclusion of the war. Power would be ripe for the taking for someone with the means to take it.

I wonder how he recruited them into Cerberus and trust them enough to know the location of his private facility. :P

I agree, but Cerberus working WITH the Reapers is not one of them.

Well, in the Retribution book it says only the most diehard Cerberus operatives are allowed to work in his personal station.

Why does people think TIM would make a good Saren-like villain in ME3? Having him go "Joining them is the ONLY way!" would sorta undermine his entire character in ME2 (and the books if a few comments are to be believed).
