Yeah, I always felt that they made Cerberus an enemy to draw emotional responses from the players that the Reapers couldn't. Sovereign,Harbinger, etc aren't even real characters, they're essentially just a Hurricane or a Tornado that can talk.

Personally, I love Cerberus as an enemy and overall plot-device. I mean, I don't like everything they've done with it, but I do like it.

Cerberus is interesting because of how morally-grey they are, and how you have draw lines as to where you consider them a friend, and where you consider them an enemy. And so much about them is a mystery.

Also, because they are not obvious bad guys. Saren, even when he was "good" was pretty evil. Collectors are big, dirty bugs. Bad guys are always ugly, and evil. Then you have the Illusive Man, who's suave, charismatic, and feels like he's on your side. He can't take you in a gun-fight (at least I don't think so!) but he's still extremely powerful an individual. THAT is interesting!

So anyway, I came in here to say that I have a pic of TIM on my Econ 104 notebook =] and I put the Turian Councilor for PoliSci (airquotes and all).

I've actually considered creating an anti-Cerberus Sheploo (with Jack as the LI!) but since nothing was done with Sole Survivor taking them to task over Akuze in ME2 I've decided against it.

What issues you have with how they've been handled?

Well the fact they're likely against you in ME3 was incredibly predictable. As someone that picked up ME2 as a new player and basically didn't get what was going on for 98% of the ride, the one message I got loud-and-clear was that I shouldn't trust Cerberus. Literally every damn person other than Miranda told me so (and Miranda obviously had her own bias).

They also fail far too much to be taken seriously. Anyone who's seen the real world knows that a track record like that of Cerberus' doesn't hack it for any working organization. You see occaisional strokes of brilliance and some success, but overall, they are a joke. To make a football analogy, think Oakland Raiders. You see some amazing wins out of that team because they are loaded with athletic young players, but they are so dysfunctional overall that they are effectively a perrenial laughing-stock.

Imagine if they were, instead, a group with a high operation-success rate while maintaining an overall ethically-questionable way of being. Suddenly, the idea of just opposing them on everything they do is no longer an obvious choice, and is actually a hard position to take.

Granted...there would be more fun and game satisfaction opposing them if this was the case.

Well, I'm not sure if it matters anymore, as it looks like Cerberus has set sail for massive fail with no turning back.

That's pretty unavoidable when you get cast as the antagonist in a video game.

That said, I bet you'll die plenty of times at the hands of Cerberus troops. Each time you do, that's when Cerberus one. I bet you'll die more times than you'll beat the game so in the end Cerberus beat you.

All right, now you've thrown down the gauntlet... I vow, now, to never fall to Cerberus in-game.

You have to play at least on Veteran. I myself will have set to Insanity from day one.

Not part of the challenge. I'll make it there eventually, of course; I'm just not tremendously great at shooters.

You know, if you were someone else, I might have believed that comment to be malicious.
Though even if I do fail, if I cared about the results of alternate universes, I'd be wracked with agony over how many people go highly Renegade.

Why? I mean, aren't you wracked with agony over it precisely because it might say something about those people and how they approach the real world? I mean if I like a man like TIM what does that say about me and my politics?

TIM would make a great President.

Because I have worse Internet comments, many about the real world, to worry about. And because the odds of us encountering Reapers IRL whom you'd sell us out to seem low.

"Real world"? A game is not the representation of the real world. As far as I see it, a bunch of Cerberus agents have been created by the developers and sent after Shepard for no higher purpose than a duck shooting gallery in a state fair.

They're fighting for the survival and preservation of humanity. That's very noble and moral.

Oh, now, see, there you go. You've done it now.
In a few months, when the Reapers descend upon us and we're all running for our lives, I'll know who to blame.

"This is all Xilizhra's fault!" I'll say, while attempting to outrun flying debris. "(S)He just HAD to go tempting fate!"

...And then I'll probably get eaten by a husk, or something. >.>

I adore villains. That doesn't mean I'm getting ready to, say, gear up and take over the world* with an army of clones while hiding out on my secret moon base on the moon.
A prediliction toward certain fictional characters has very little bearing on my behavior (or opinions) in the real world.
That's as absurd as saying someone who plays FPS games is going to, one day, shoot up his school.

...Of course that could have been a sarcastic comment, in which case, just ignore me. I'm tired-posting again. My cognizance is operating at a bare minimum here.

Here are some songs that remind me of TIM. I hope this entertains someone. It certainly entertained me.

Shepard to TIM:

3 Doors Down - Kryptonite

"I really don't mind what happens now and then,
As long as you'll be my friend at the end."

"I'll keep you by my side with my superhuman might,
Kryptonite."

TIM to Shepard:

Poets of the Fall - You Know My Name

"When the storm arrives, would you be seen with me
By the merciless eyes I've deceived?"

TIM giving a fair warning:

"Arm yourself, because no one else here will save you.
The odds will betray you, and I will replace you."

"Are you willing to die?"

TIM to everyone else:

Finger Eleven - Walking In My Shoes

"But I'll tell you now, my judge and jurors,
Intentions couldn't have been purer.
My case is easy to see."

TIM to Paragon Shepard:

Linkin Park - No More Sorrow

"No, no more sorrow.
I've paid for your mistakes.
Your time is borrowed.
Your time has come to be replaced."

TIM, the whipping boy of Bioware, fights a losing battle against devs in ME3:

Metallica - The Unforgiven

"Won't see what might have been."

and for this line:

"What I've felt, what I've known never shined through in what I've shown."

TIM slipping to the Reapers' side:

Within Temptation - The Truth Beneath The Rose

"I believed it would justify the means.
It had a hold over me."

TIM being indoctrinated:

AFI - The Leaving Song Pt. 2

"Look what I've built.
It shines so beautifully.
Now watch as it destroys me."

TIM turning humanity into a Reaper:

Within Temptation - Mother Earth

"I find my strength
Believing that your soul lives on.
Until the end of time
I'll carry it with me."

"Once you will know, my dear,
You don't have to fear,
A new beginning always starts at the end."

The Earth in ME3:

Within Temptation - Our Solemn Hour

You can hear the Citadel Council speaking at the beginning, and then the Earth pleading with them to help. And you can see a human liquified at 0:34.

"In my darkest hours, I could not foresee
That the tide could turn so fast to this degree."

And someone better hurry before the human Reaper is built:

"If we can't restrain
The beast which dwells inside,
It will find its way, somehow, somewhere in time."

A little angst, now. Within Temptation is good for it.

Me to TIM, suspicious at the end of ME2:

Within Temptation - A Dangerous Mind

"It's in your eyes, what's on your mind.
I fear your smile and the promise inside."

Me to TIM, after learning the news about ME3:

Within Temptation - What Have You Done

"I know I should stop believing,
I know that there's no retrieving,
It's over now."

TIM, what have you done?

And another one from me to TIM:

Within Temptation - The Cross

"I'm still wondering why I'm still calling your name, and I wonder, oh, I wonder...
In my heart I still hope you will open the door.
You can purify it all,
Answer my call!"

And finally, this one to TIM from my avatar:

Metallica - Nothing Else Matters

If the Reapers existed in real world, I would want TIM as a leader of humanity. In real world.

And especially if I were living on one of those colonies who weren't liquified because TIM acted in time.

And Shepard doesn't shoot any of his schoolmates. He doesn't go around shooting civilians. He shoots people who try to shoot him. They're hostile bandits and space zombies.

Damn, I never thought of combining Within Temptation with ME. I'll be sure to play them the next time I play.
