Remembere that whole batarain subplot in ME1 where Balak hinted that Terra Nova was just a taste of things to come? Whatever happened to that?

What? You expected sort-of-subtle-but-not-really foreshadowing rather than plain as day? Pft, expections!

Well we did get that N7 mission, and Arrival kept pushing how things were about to explode with the batarians... but then LOL the Reapers killed them all!

What a lame finish.

Here's a list of some other plots that went nowhere from the top of my head:

ME1 Ending: The council and/or Anderson/Udina recognizing the Reaper threat and preparing for war.

Overlord: The whole Cerberus controlled Geth subplot.

LOTSB: Liara as a major supporting character.

Ascension: Quarian admirals wanting access to a reaper to control the Geth.

Shepard slaughtered 300,000 Batarians in Bahak in one day. Using similar tactics as Balak did.

Indeed, so many interesting things could have been done with Arrival. It should have been bigger budget.

There's also ME: Galaxy's whole plot of the Batarians wanting to unleash a bioweapon against the council.

And Balak pretty much forgives you, giving you reinforcements.

And he starts his dialogue with "You should've killed me when you had the chance". :?

Oh, I almost forgot about that. Going into ME2 in the early days I suspected we'd wind up fighting the quarians at some point too after they were indoctrinated. At the very least such a radical turn of events would have given us some interesting drama for Tali's character to play off of.

My impression is that in any long, serial fiction, the author(s) make up an excess number of plot points. Some of them are used later, others discarded, depending on a variety of factors (audience response being primary among them).

He laments what the writers have done to him much like TIM.

That's true, but I think way too many of them go nowhere. Some of them are also things that you really shouldn't bring up and tease us with if you aren't going to use them (quarian Reaper scheme) or give them so much fanfare (LOTSB).

Overlord, would have been too powerful if successful, but allowing a partial success in ME3 to help you would have been nice. There is also so much more that could be done with the concept, like having Cerberus recruit Daro'Xen or the rest of the quarians as allies to take on the geth, only for both parties to double-cross one another later. Or something to that effect.

XD Oh god.  I had to laugh at that because I remembered Mac Walters(I think it was him) posting that, and everyone thought we'd finally have a moment where letting someone live was a bad thing.

Balak found himself in a new world, something which he hadn't seen before. He returned back to the Batarian Hegemony, not as a villain... but a hero, somebody who interacted with Shepard and lived. Therefore, he became the highest ranked Batarian in the universe (they created a rank for him).

Shepard Balak led the charge against the Reapers when they first arrived, leading his personal team of two individuals. His appearance in ME3 only coincides while he's taking a break dating his m/m romance option, Malak (breather masks are hot).

Would have been nice if selling Legion off and keeping David in Overlord would have resulted in all of the Geth becoming human controlled(not right away of course) in a "Cerberus path".

Those people who made playthroughs to kill everybody in ME1 to avoid the consequences of hearing that line are certainly going to be surprised.

And it was Weekes, not Mac.

The final confrontation dialogue between the Illusive Man and Shepard----

TIM: Did they say why, Shepard, why they want to terminate my command?

Shepard: I was sent on a mission to kill the reapers, sir.

TIM: It's no longer the reapers, is it? Did they tell you?

Shepard: They told me that you had gone... totally insane... and that your methods were... unsound.

TIM: Are my methods unsound?

Shepard: I don't see... any method... at all, sir.

TIM: I expected someone like you. What did you expect? Are you an assassin?

Shepard: I'm a soldier.

TIM: You're neither. You're an errand boy, sent by grocery clerks... to collect the bill.

This is all I ask for.

I'd kill off TIM because the nature of his existence makes him a liability.

Quite frankly, I always thought that Balak had just a hint of change if you spare him. Just something in his tone of voice; it's like an extremely tiny version of "Human nobility. I didn't know such a thing existed." As though he suspected that all humans hated batarians enough that they'd easily sacrifice their own to kill one, but apparently not.

That's really not a hint of change, Xil.

A hint of change would be an indication that he would CHANGE his priorities or actions. None of Balak's motivations for the attempted murder of millions had anything to do with a lack of human nobility.
