Today marks my official retirement from the Dragon Age franchise.

Time will tell whether my MEs will suffer the same fate after I see the Cerberus/TIM spoilers from ME3 post-release.

I love how this thread has basically become a Bioware-bashing circle jerk.

The fact that it's on their very own forum makes it better.

Although I love the passion of the act ... why not simply sell them?

Too lazy and not as fun.

Edit:  And in the case of DA2 I prefer destroying bad games so no other gamer suffers from it like I did.

Why today? What triggered the decision?

Delayed reaction. ;)

Well, that and I was vaguely considering whether or not to check out DA3 but after thinking about how DA2 and ME3 ended up and the general direction the company's going....

I prefer to sell them so that if someone does make the mistake of buying the game the company will at least not get any money for it.

Your approach is definitely more fun though.

You're making the right choice Seboist.

But seriously. That is classy.

Although, I felt that Legacy was decent enough and while I did not play MOTA, I heard that should be good as well. So maybe it was slightly premature to abandon the DA franchise if there still is some competence left.

"EDIT"

Did you also destroy DA:O? I don't know about you, but that game was pretty solid IMO.

Yeah I destroyed DA:O and I agree it's solid but I had no intention of playing it again and it's legacy was tainted by things like DA2 and the devs canonizing certain things(Alistair being King) so I had the put the old boy to sleep.

Damn shame too, it's the only Bioware game that I've played with decent C&C. RIP

That's a bit of an overreaction. BioWare are improving in some areas despite making blunders in others. One might say in fact that BioWare have never even regressed in moral terms: paragon/renegade has been botched but the precedent was light/dark, which was even worse.

Has to be, the rest of the forum is a renegade-bashing circle jerk. You'd know, though.

I'm still holding out hope for the DA series, Gaider has an understanding of both the mage and templar side of things. In addition, we had Harrowmont which essentially blew in the face of the "paragons" which showed me that we might see more people getting shafted down the line.

Whether or not he'll apply that understanding of both sides is wait-and-see, the writers might simply cave in to making mages into the not-dangerous innocent people that most think they are.

Actually despite my misgivings with some of the ME3 leaks I'm still more interested in Mass Effect and think it holds better for BioWare. I liked DA:O but felt it only went so far and that DA2 was a weaker game overall. ME2 relative to its predecessor signalled big things for BioWare: smooth combat mechanics, polish, etc. ME3 looks to be building on that already strong platform so I'm looking forward to that. Yeah, some of the writing sucks but then ME2's main plot was garbage to non-existent and I still loved that game.

ME2's plot was horrible if you viewed it only as the Collectors / Reapers plot, it wasn't that bad if you looked at it as team building and preparing for the Suicide Mission. Prepping your team and going through the Omega-4 was awesome because it was your team, not because you were fighting the Collectors.

Unfortunate that the suicide mission is easy to get through without a death.

I think my <3 died... why did I come here in the first place? I was hoping for some T.I.M revelations but all I got was this crap... I'm leaving now...

What? I know that there were some problems with the imports (especially in regards of Awakening) but from what I know Alistair doesn't show up as King in every case. Or is this about the story that Gaider wrote about Alistair, Isabela and Varric?
About DA3, I agree on what Dave said.
Though I'm probably not going to preorder it. DA2 was an enourmous disappointment. Not only for the game itself, but because it was clear that Bioware rushed its development to gain advantage of DAO popularity and success.

I agree with this post regarding ME3. The Cerberus, Rachni and Balak (and potentially EDI) plotlines suck. But I genuinely like the Reaper and genophage plotlines and I think the squad coupled with the banter looks solid.

The only thing I will reserve jugdement on is the Geth/Quarian plot.

But even if you look at it from that angle I am still disappointed in the lack of the team interactions.

  • The Illusive Man doesn't recruit anybody who is sympathetic, they aren't "true" Cerberus. Mass Effect 3 reveals this.
  • In a (not-so) shocking twist, The Illusive Man built the Lazarus Cell so Shepard would feel comfortable. This isn't for Shepard's desires, it's because he wants Shepard to be blind and not see the "true face" of Cerberus.
  • Almost everything that went wrong in ME1 is retroactively attributed to Cerberus and The Illusive Man's involvement, making the trilogy effectively about you trying to stop him with the Reapers as the side villain in the backround.
  • The Illusive Man has decided in ME3 that abandoning all his assets is the greatest idea ever, betraying everybody left and right. Including his top operatives for absolutely no reason.
  • The Illusive Man respects Renegade Shepard but views him as a useless tool with no free will, he hates Paragon Shepard but eventually respects him, saying he's the better man that he never was.

So at the end, he thinks that the Paragon way it's better? That's really lame (though maybe I don't understand well the phrase).
