At this point I'm putting all my stock into Dragon Age. Say what you want about them establishing a canon or keeping Leliana alive (they never really made the promises the ME team did), but at least it still has interesting, consistent lore and characters. It probably has to do with the difference in the writing structure between the two teams.
DA writers are organized as they assign certain lore and characters to a specific writing staff. This minimizes the risk of errors as they don't have to trade off the material often. This makes sure there's a good, consistent vision of where certain developments and characters should go.
ME writers... are all over the place from what I've heard. Staff kept coming and going for one and I probably can't fathom how many people have worked on Liara. They share the characters and setting details very liberally amongst each other and that's obviously very prone to error as has been demonstrated by inconsistent characterization, plot holes, and lore/logic errors.
