My god... FINALLY, a Witcher fan that also likes Mass Effect 2. I was beginning to think that I was the only one that loves both games. It always seems that everyone always either love Witcher 2 and hates Mass Effect 2 or vice versa.  ^_^

Wut? You're nuts? We hate DA2! We all love Origins, ME and ME2!  (actually we DO NOT hate DA2 but it could be more enjoyable if it didn't had DA on the title, didn't use ME2 cutscene libraries so poorly, didn't changed the whole art and lore of the game, NPC's, Origins' NPC's, - imagine if DA2 team had redesigned all races art style for ME2! - didn't recycle areas over and over ad nauseum, etc., etc.)

PS.: But when I run into a crazy bug like a Frozen Vorcha, flying under a Heavy Pull from companion, that keeps shooting and kills my Shep making me replay a fraking long section on a +game, always Insanity, I really cuss the bloody devs that can't beta test the fraking game to get rid of bugs. Just found this for the first time... grrrrrrr

Well Mass Effect was never supposed to be a spiritual successor to anything so I think it does well for what it's supposed to be a shoorter/rpg. Granted Deus Ex the original did it much better but still. Great game. And Rage must have been sarcastic ofcourse.

That doesn't mean Mass Effect 2 has the best story and decision making. But it's still a great game imo. I'd have to put Witcher 2 on top though it really is just a great sequel :P

Horrible is a strong word

I've played horrible games in my time, ever played Shaq Fu? Yeah I thought so.

Are you saying Mass Effect 2 is just as horrible as say... Superman 64? Duke Nukem Forever?

ME2 wasn't as engrossing for me. The innumerable side missions didn't drop hints at a big mystery like ME1, and I knew what I was in for unlike the refreshingly original ME1.

Then there's the HUD. I absolutely hate it in ME2. It's big, orange, and useless. I could play the entire game without any of the HUD! All I need on screen in real time is the health screen fade so I know to find cover. Everything else should be in a menu or in-world like Dead Space.

“If you want make your game as a movie, you should be making movies”.
...
”Games have the power to transport you” he said. “When you play a Star Wars game, it’s you who decides whether to join the dark side. When you play Half-Life you become Gordon Freeman. We are about the only medium that doesn’t cut away [from that immersion].”

He continued: “If we embrace what is unique about our own medium, we allow our own audiences to express themselves creatively. We are unique in the human history in allowing audiences to be creative with their entertainment. We need to stop telling players what to do. We need to get them to tell their own story.”

I am new to the Mass Effect universe, I have only been playing for about six weeks and I do not know why I waited so long to get this game. I am hooked, I just love this game.
I got MassEffect 2 first so my first experiance with the game was with 2. I completed it numerous times on all levels changing things just to see the difference.
I then found Mass Effect 1 so started from the beggining. I was a little frustrated with the control difference, I wasted a lot of grenades before I got out of the habit of reloading in cover.
To get to the point I like 1 better than 2 but just and yes I like driving the rover about, it's just pure fun but it needs a bigger cannon, bigger bang and more to blow up.
The experiance point system and upgrade tree of 1 is better and the flow of battle just seemed more satisfying.
The annoying thing to me about both games and others is that the game is for adults it has been designed by adults yet we get bombarded by childish little puzzles.
The cinematics give meaning to the battles and to me add to the experiance but I do not want to have  crap interupt me for no reason other than the game designers got lazy.
The part in 1 that I relly liked and even had a few tears was the choice sequence for the Arachnid queen, very well done. In the second I was equally effected by Tali's trial, again well done.
I really liked both games but agree 1 is better than 2 and I predict 3 is going to be the best  and I do not want to wait.

The correct words are "not as good as ME1". Horrible is somehow strong.

Warren Spector, Deus Ex and System Shock. In other words, game dev genius. I would love to see his version of a space opera RPG.

I never said cutscenes and film-inspired artistic flairs are naturally bad. The film grain effect in ME1 and 2 is subtle but makes a noticeable difference when you take it off - the game is better with it. Cutscenes aren't all bad, but I do think ME2 takes it too far. I didn't feel like ME1 had that many, for instance, but it had a few when it needed it, like - well, ****, no spoilers - but during the final battle, it was kinda necessary at times.

Somebody else mentioned Dead Space. That game nailed story telling with minimal out-of-game cutscenes. Half-life managed it too. It can be done, and I wish they'd do more.

And god yes, I am glad the elevator rides are gone, although I actually kind of liked the elevator guy.

The thing I don't get about Mass Effect 2 compared to the first one is...
You're in space, visiting new planets, learning new things... but you never actually get to explore. You just look at the planets from afar. I mean, with this entire vast galaxy to explore and find out new things... there really isn't any of that.
I think that's what disappointed me most about Mass Effect 2.
In a game where you're traveling through space, you should really be able to explore a lot of planets.

Yes, I'm surethe Collectors will stop abducting human colonies and cease their plans on liquifying them to make a new Reaper while you go off and catalogue the flora and fauna of a planet you havent visited.
Shep is a soldier, not a scientist. Leave that sort of thing for the boffins.

Yeah I'm sure the Collectors stopped when Shepard got drunk on the Citadel too. They probably took a break from it. Maybe they came to their senses and stopped abducting human colonies all together, Shepard becoming drunk is a very potent psychological weapons which has a lasting effect across the galaxy.

If Shepard has time to become drunk on the Citadel, he has time to explore space as well.

I think "horrible" is the perfect word for ME2. I lost count of how many times I uttered the words "WTF?" during play. There was just so much wrong with the game, and it left me feeling betrayed by BioWare.

And I might get flamed for this, but I'm currently going through Duke Nukem Forever, and I'm having an absolute blast. Completely disagree with all the negative reviews, and just adds more evidence (in my opinion) that game review sites are not as objective as they'd have us believe.

it's more like "opinions differ" and a review is still an opinion.

Be more accurate to say aspects of it are horrible. On the whole ME2 was good, but I'm profoundly glad I waited long enough to not pay full price for it.

Endless corridor shooter with no level variety? Horrible.
Brainless AI that never varies it's tactics or position, even on multiple playthroughs? Horrible.
Using the same button for Use, Sprint, Cover, Stop Cover? Horrible.
Big Red Reset button instead of a real continuation of the ME1 plot? Horrible.
Braindead RPG elements that make every character feel the same? Horrible.
Trying to have a tactical cover shooter and a fast paced action shooter at the same time? Horrible.

On the other hand...
Voice acting? Amazing.
Character writing? Amazing.

At least it had a few high points.

I disagree with Mass Effect 2 being a 'horrible game', since it is one of my favorite games and one of the best games ever created in my opinion.

I did not, however, read your wall of text and I have no intention to do so.  Please learn what the 'enter' key is, and use it.  It's better to use it too much on the forums than to use it too little.

I liked Mass Effect 2 as well. Yes I agree some things I think could of been better in ME2 as well but I still liked it. Its probably because I am just one of those people that are just easy to please. For a game to be "horrible" to me it has to be really... really... bad.

Really bad graphics, poor gameplay, performance issues, etc.

One game I really hate is Unreal 2.

As for reviews I am starting to get discouraged by them. Some games I thought should/would be good are rated bad and put **** on and some which I played which I thought a bad get good reviews. It just goes to show at the end of the day it just comes down to opinions even with reviews.
