The only foreseeable conclusion is that Cerberus sent these beasts on the direction of the Reapers, but why? A single Reaper can blow up Omega with a single shot. Why do they have to get all Collector-like and unleash the warhounds?

The BioWare development team has helped us design two fantastic decks of playing cards
Because we weren't able to use the already existing concept art and game graphics and make blank backgrounds by ourselves? What next? Jigsaw puzzles? Ecological shopping bags? Mass Effect icecream? I bet the BioWare development team would love to concentrate all their efforts on such gloruios products!
Hey, instead of making actualy valuable and atractive product like hmm... let's say TRADING CARD GAME we should make some ****ty gadgets that nobody will buy. Let's totaly do that.

That's more like a husk than anything else... But even if it's a Prothean, apart from the head there isn't much difference. Similar eyes, tentacles out of their mouths....
The Protheans expanded over the entire Galaxy, I think it's safe to assume that there'd be a couple different variations of them ( like how we humans are black, asian, etc), especially considering that over the centuries the citizens of each Prothean hub would have to somehow adapt to the new lifestyle/environment, eventually changing the looks.
If you look closer to our Prothy the Prothean you can see that it's actual a metal strapped to it's head... also, the hands are robotic.

Speaking of Rachni Broodwarriors, they should reappear in ME3. They recieved a raw deal in ME1 by only appearing in two Mako worlds.
Biotic Rachni ftw.
I agree, their models weren't used much in ME1. Fingers crossed they will make an appearance in ME3- they could be valuable allies against the husk hoards (they could spam stasis and throw), especially if there were some armed vorcha riding on their backs
Or if the reapers have indoctrinated them again they could be fighting alongside Cerberus against Shepard which would also be awesome.

Watching Vorcha ride brood warriors into battle like a horse would be the greatest moment in gaming history.
