I am trying to open the hak files with NWExplorer (windows 7) and it crashes. I can open the erfs and everything else, but when I try to expand the HAK files... it crashes...
Any suggestions?

Does it also crash if you try to select something from one of the menues?
If so, maybe you have an older version of NWExplorer. Versions before 1.6.3 don't work well on Vista and probably Windows 7.
I haven't had any problems with version 1.6.3.

If you're using the side menu to select hakpaks, then either a) don't, use File -> Open instead, or B) get a copy of acaos' NWN Explorer Reborn from the vault. The problem here is with typically with the premium modules, whose hakpaks use an encryption method that NWN Explorer doesn't understand and thus crashes as soon as it attempts to read the file.

If you are NOT able to open individual hakpaks with File -> Open, then there may be some other issue too. Either way, chances are updating will resolving it.

This is probably a matter of your computer's memory. The crashes you're seeing are what I used to see on my old rig with 1 gb of ram. On my current systems (3 and 4 gb ram), nwnexplorer opens these in the sidebar with no problem.

If you don't have enough ram, use six's suggestion and look at them using "file -> open."

Again, I blame the premium modules.

Also again, if you aren't already, try using this.

Hmm.. in that case, perhaps soemething else is going on.

On my current system (3 gb ram) I've got Witch's Wake, Kingmaker, Shadowguard, and Wyvern Crown of Cormyr installed, but not Infinite Dungeons or Pirates of the Sword Coast. I'm running nwn explorer 1.1 and can browse anything including haks in the sidebar with no trouble. My old system also had ID and PotSC installed, 1 gig of ram, and crashed anytime I tried to opeh the hak folder in the nwn explorer sidebar. I think I may also have been using an older version of nwn explorer at the time (1.0?) as well, but I'm not sure.

Perhaps I jumped to the conclusion that it was a ram problem when in fact it's something else. Whatever the problem, though, six is right that you should be able to get around it by just opening the hak directly using File->Open.
