I just hope that doesn't mean Shepard HAS to die at the end of ME3! That would suck.

Maybe there is a "defeat through lack of sacrifice" option available (not as a critical mission failure, of course)?

Shepard and crew should react accordingly to all the death and destruction around them, but leave Shepard's possible emotions on a dialog wheel. A scene like the locker one in ME1 would be wonderful, and it's ambiguity is its saving throw. If there had been tears on Shepard's face, some people may have had an aneurysm. Give us one or two of those scenes, and use the dialog wheel, and I will be a very happy camper.

As for deaths, if anyone in my squad dies no matter what I do, I'm just going to stop caring so much about that character. Virmire worked because it gave us a choice--take away the choice, and the emotional impact falls short. And while I'd like to see losses, let's not have too many deaths; I want to feel like I accomplished something at the end of the game. Having the majority of Shep's team wiped out feels like, well, overkill.

Banter and squad interaction will hopefully provide plenty of humor, and some hope. The galaxy may be going to hell, but Grunt has your back and a bottle of ryncol. Things are far from good, but you've got to enjoy the little things.

I love Thane but I want his death to happen and have meaning and a shep that romanced him should have some melodrama

I also think it would be fit for some VS melodrama. I envision the VS as a spectre coming to haul you in and you have the option to go renegade and full on shoot it out and its a battle like in Arrival where you have no hope of winning but this inevitably creates an unavoidable schism between you and the VS particularly if the VS was your LI. and yes I want an US ending like in DAO for some wardens it was the perfect ending and for some sheps it would be the perfect ending. I see many opportunities for melodrama and look forward to them eagerly as long as they add to the character and the story and not overwhelm and derail it.

Doubtful. Think Virmire on a galatic scale.

I'd hope the amount of personal tragedy would be down to the player's choices. Much like ME2's suicide mission, if you make poor choices then characters around you or either sheppard himself could die. To me that kind of risk element makes the game more enganging and immersive.

I'm hoping there are a few unavoidable squadmate deaths. Maybe your actions affect which squad mates buy the farm, but death itself should be unavoidable.

Likewise I'm hoping that the best ending (as far as the galaxy goes) involves Shepard dying.

This is literally going to be the most epic battle in the history of the galaxy. There should be no room in that for butterflies and rainbows.

As CheeseEnchilada mentioned, the Locker scene in ME1 was brilliant. You had a lot of wiggle room to characterize Shepard and the responsive dialogue there helped make it a great experience. I'd love to see similar situations like that in ME3.

I didn't mind BSG's bluntness as gloomy atmosphere at all and felt it was appropriate. However they could've cut out most of the middle parts (aside from the Pegasus) and it would've been a much better experience for me; too much stalling with weak esoteric existentialist crap brought it down hard.

If there has to be loss, I hope it'll be similar to Virmire - a choice. As mentioned in another thread, the suicide mission didn't quite have the same impact because it boiled down to either Shepard's or the player's (deliberate) incompetence in getting someone killed.

I just don't see how ME2 was dark. I do disagree on this I want lots and lots of tragedy and sacrifices, and don't care on the types of tragedy. I say more tragedy and sacrifices the better, but in the end through all of the deaths, tragedy and sacrifices I want a happy ending with sunshine etc.
