I think Big Boss, while clearly a badass, doesn't really count. The guy was just an exceptionally skilled soldier and tactical genius. He didn't have the enhancements one requires to qualify as a Super Soldier. His 'sons' however, definitely qualify, since they were all created from his genetic material.

But considering how people in the series obssesed over his remains and reputation as the perfect warrior, perhaps he does qualify.

Perhaps it would be helpful to first define 'super soldier' OP? Personally, I certainly wouldn't consider the likes of Celes or Xena - in my books a super soldier needs to be either genetically or cybernetically enhanced to be counted as a 'super soldier'.

Edit: Actually - I'm not certain about Celes - was she 'enhanced' by the Empire?  I think she could have been...It's been far too long since I've played FFVI.

A clone is a physically identical duplicate grown through artificial means, sure as hell sounds like genetic enhancement to me. And like it's stated in the Metal Gear series, people left and right we're fighting over Big Boss' remains, and they were used by the patriots to create the Genome soldiers.
