Some of us may like all the puzzles in ME1 and ME2, some may not.

What puzzles/ hacking tasks/ interfaces would you like to see in ME3? [Include pictures as reference]

I enjoyed the ME1 decrypting interface

I strongly disliked the ME2 'snap' hacking interface.

for 4 year olds!

Why did you just punish your own thread? Just wait until people complain about ME2's dumbed down puzzle system.

Good point phaedon, it's been amended.

What is your view of puzzles that should be included in ME3, new or previous.

None of them offer much of a challenge, maybe ME1's does, if the level is high enough.

But ME1's design is based on the feature that all of the player's effort can be cancelled in the last moment, making it fundamentally flawed.

I wouldn't have an issue with something like ME2, but a bit more challenging. Maybe more diverse as well.

The Deus Ex HR system seems interesting.

Things like the tower of Hanoi and the math thing concerning shutting the gate at the ExoGeni HQ on Feros were cool. ME2 had some nice stuff as well, but it pretty much felt like cancelled or cut content since it's all stuffed in short and/or uninspired side quests, where ME (1) had the puzzles on the main planets.

Actually, all minigames become tiresome at some point. I'd prefer none at all.

ME1 used frogger. I suggest ME3 use pacman instead.

This, I never saw the point to it really, especially in ME1 when even if you failed the mini-game nothing happened like surveying and recovering artifacts.  They should have had that mini-game for the bomb defusing and a few other things, but it was unnecessary for every single container you come into contact with.

I don't mind the occasional one-off type puzzles, but would not be disappointed if they were left out.

How about a mix? Spicing it up a little.

One thing that bugged me was the repetitiveness of the puzzles, as in always three lanes of code to match up, or always the same PCB background to hack.
Many more PCB layouts or even layouts composed of several different PCBs with different solder mask colors that would limit hackpoints to their own boards would spice things up.

The ME1 hacking circle is a bit twitchy and it allows reflexes and predictive insight to make puzzles faster; what if ME2's had a twichy arcade element to it that would allow people to hack things faster?

You could tie all this to the difficulty level as well; Casual shouldn't have the complex stuff in it nor the arcade element.

There isn't just one minigame in ME1. The frogger minigame is unique to the PC version. The X-Box version had Simon which was completely intolerable. Frogger I could handle, but not endless Simon.

The challenge is that it has to be a minigame that is amenable to both mouse/keyboard and joystick.

They all got repetitive, really.

It could have been worse, they could have made the players play sudoku!

I hate minigames. The only one I've ever liked was lockpicking in Thief 1 and 2. That's because it it didn't take you out of the game at all... while you sit there working on a door, you're constantly in danger of a guard walking by.

Thief DS, Oblivion, Fallout 3/NV, Bioshock, ME1/ME2, you name it, the minigames are horrible. Sometimes they are simply terrible (Thief DS) sometimes they are exploitable (Oblivion) and sometimes harmless (Fallout), but always they stick out like a sore thumb. Who in their right mind ever thought that doing a 30 year old visual puzzle in the middle of a gunfight would ever be fun?

The doctor who adventures one was fun

you had to drag the wires point to point.

no wires were allowed to cross

and as you can see by the layout, there were obstacles to navigate too.

The idea of "draggin" made it "feel" as if you were rewiring.

click the "solve puzzles" link midway down the page.

They increased in complexity as you went up in levels.

Ah yes, good idea. I like the concept, perhaps with different visuals. If you've seen Tron Legacy that light effect might look nice for ME3 circuitry.

I can see that one making sense, since it's a puzzle/adventure game to start with. I still say that minigame puzzles don't belong in an action game though.

Well, for ME3, I'd like to keep mini-games to a minimum.

I'm fine if the mini-games of ME1 and ME2 are used in ME3, but I'd at least like to have the option to bypass the games completely. There will be times where I don't want to work through them, regardless of how simple or straight forward they are.

So, in other words, I'd like an Auto-Hack feature that has a finite source.

I was thinking something similar to what Liara used in the LotSB, so having a VI / AI Hacking program that you would have to buy to replenish for use in the field.

I'd support that, if I'm explaining myself well enough that is.

well I think puzzles if done correctly can work their way into a shooter game... Like when han was trying to hotwire the bunker in return of the jedi... however such games should allow your squad to -cover- you while you are doing it.. be nice if there was some way to not make it take you to a -screen- so if neccessary you can shoot, hell be nice if it was just something you -zoomed- in on without taking you out of the battlefield
