Sorry, but that was the only way that I could word the title without spoiling it.

If unhardened Alistair marries the queen, will he always be pissed off toward you, or is that only if Loghain lives?  Or can only hardened Alistair marry the queen?

Alistair will only be pissed off at you if you spare Loghain. If you make him unhardened king and married to Anora, but killed Loghain, he will be mad at you right after the Landsmeet (but you can easily calm him down) and he'll be totally cool with you by the end of the game.

He can marry Anora regardless of whether he's hardened or unhardened. However you must be the one to kill Loghain if you plan to marry an unhardened Alistair to Anora, otherwise she'll refuse.

Thank you. Unless I've forgotten something, you seem to have answered all of my questions.

The reason why I asked is because I want what's best for the alienage. During the first city elf playthrough that I did, I allowed Queen Anora to keep her throne, because I wanted to keep my friendship with Alistair. I didn't know at the time, that the epilogue would ignore my position as bann of the alienage and Anora would just make life harder for the Denerim elves.

Actually, he's not cool with you at all at the end of the game. He hasn't forgiven you. If his tone of voice and words don't give it away, there are toolset notes explicitly stating there is still bad blood between you and him.

I feared that. So basically, it's "be nice to your friend" or "make him king and he will resent you for it". Personally, I don't know what Alistair's so upset about... My Cousland, pictured in my avatar here, had no problem marrying her. ;)

Are we talking about the same scenario, killing Loghain and marrying him to Anora while unhardened? Because there sure wasn't any bad blood there when I did it, and hell, that was in a game where I finished at -97 disapproval.

When sparing Loghain and marrying him to Anora (hardened), yes, there is a lot of bad blood and it is 100% evident (the toolset just serves as confirmation because it's more than clear just from what he says).

Zjarcal, oops, you are correct, my bad. I am indeed thinking of the sparing Loghain scenario. Sorry! >.<

He doesn't seem to mind just marrying Anora, no :D

So, as long as Loghain is dead and never becomes a Grey Warden, Alistair won't hate my guts. Good to know.

Unhardend Alistair should NEVER be made King. Hes really bad at it and results in bad ending epilogues.

I always hardened Ali regardless. It helps him understand an "ends justify the means" way of seeing things.

Apparently not if he marries Anora.  On the Epilogue page of the Dragon Age Wiki, if you look under "Queen Anora", you'll see what I'm talking about.

No, Last Darkness is right. A unhardened Alistair will just let Anora rule while he sneaks to pubs and all.

I hardened him and married him and he still snuck to pubs - which the people liked ;)

Having Anora marry unhardened Alistair means the Alienage riot and massacre under sole-Anora's rule is never mentioned. Even unhardened, I like to believe Alistair tempers Anora's rule with a bit of compassion.

I like to think so too.  Like I said, I want what's best for the alienage.  My heroic city elf warrior is my favorite character.  I'd like to give his people a little bit of hope.

The best end for the alienage seems to be Anora + Alistair, or sole Alistair, with your PC as the bann if you pick elven rights as your boon. :)
