I rarely use him, I'd like to but the problem is that he seems to be crappy and unlocking things which is one of the main jobs for a rogue in my party, I don't want to take two rogues (usualyl I play as a mage) and I've found that if he cannot open things it just makes me miss leliana and want her around to do that, am I doing things wrong or is he infact just bad at unlockpicking and isn't very useful in the game?

While stealth might be handy, he doesn't have enough skill points for lockpicking. Just put points into lockpicking instead of stealth after using the mod.

Furthermore I recommend using Assassin spec and Ranger.

ijust don't see any reason i'd bring him over leliana if he cannot unlock things for me, he seems good in a fight and all but he just is lacking some of the basic skills i need a rogue to have

You could buy some tomes for him, so he can get a few ranks in deft hands.

You could keep Leliana as the lockpicker and bring Zevran along as a dps companion. Dual wield rogues are quite deadly, and being able to pick locks is just icing on the cake.

Zevran isn't your average rogue, if you had to categorize him he's your typical Max Damage Rogue. If you max out his Assassin Talents, Dual Weapon Talents, get him Coupe De' Grace and Evasion, and give his weapon a Paralyze Rune...he's lethal.

Just make sure you pump a whole bunch of points into dexterity and about 40 points into cunning, (the Paralyze rune is so that he can inflict backstabs without you having to move him every 4 and a half seconds).

I did not use Zevran the first few playthroughs other than to make poisons. He comes pre-built with master skill in that, I believe.

This playthrough I did actually use him in the caverns leading to the mountaintop above Haven. He held his own. I had to plug a lot of points into his constitution, though. I have him equipped with the dragonbone crow daggers with hale runes so he doesn't get knocked down so much. Also some grandmaster damage, slow, and paralyze runes.  Can equip 6 runes with the 2 dragonbone crow daggers, which is nice.

Momentum helps him a lot. Punisher is nice, too. But he seems always to be a slow build. Not bad at higher levels, though.

by the way anybody know how to check where my subscribed threads are? i subscribe to them but i do'nt know how to check

as for zev, i guess what im asking is there a way where i can make him a good lockpicker as well? i am not taking two rogues out so if he comes out he needs to be able to do that. tomes is a good idea

Well...let's just say that I'd give up on that unless you're a mage (and therefore use different tomes).

If you want to make zevran into a lockpicking + assassin Rogue, then you'll have to use at least 4 tomes of physical technique on him, which IS possible but if your main character is a warrior or rogue your full potential is sealed forever

Zev makes a good just about anything but a Archer generaly.
