Okay, as far as game breaking bugs go, you guys do a pretty decent job of pushing those fixes out. But as far as post release support of your products (except for maybe NWN), I would rate it as pretty darn anemic, and just darn chaotic with DA:O
ME3 is the last of the Triliogy. To quote Mr. Hudson "The development team is laser focused on making sure Mass Effect 3 is
the biggest, boldest and best game in the series, ensuring that it
exceeds everyone’s expectations".
Good show, but for that to hold true you hard working folk need to work hard a few months after the release party. Now I could be wrong, and hell might freeze over and every bug/balance issue can be solved with two major patches, but I'm pretty sure that won't be the case. It would be optimal to fix everthing in one or two patches, but in reality those 1st two are usually taken up by game breaking fixes, or odd ball issues with the PC version. I realize that MS/Sony's certification process is not trivial in cost or headache, but such is the price of multi-platform releases.
Also, lets not kid ourselves here. Multiplayer is coming to Mass Effect. Whether or not it will be included with ME3 on release or inculded later, or as a seperate product is up for debate, and to be frank-the Doctors themselves might not know at this juncture. But that point is mute, to nuture an online community-you must really up your game on post release support. As balance issues, netcode issues, hacking, exploits, and all that other crap that is included with online MP comes up, you have to be ready to tackle those problems early and often. It seems kinda silly requesting this from the same company that nutured the NWN community back in the day, just call it a reminder of what it takes to really grow an online component.
Someone at Bioware will have to correct me if I'm wrong, but I think at some point the $ allocation for patches and support expired for NWN and they went so far as to offer some fixes and such on thier own dime. Truthfully, that is not a sustainable buisness practice and EA will have nothing of it, but it is the kinda attitude that is required to "exceed all expectations". Unless all expectations incudes converations with characters whose eyes are rolling into the back of thier skulls or whatnot.
-Thanks for your time.
