I think people who talk about DA being "destroyed" by DA2 really need to look at their priorities.
I don't think it's fair to accuse them of having distorted priorities. I think maybe it's more accurate to simply point out to them that their priorities do not reflect the majority. For example, I absolutely hate how easy games are. I loved how frustratingly difficult old NES games were because the feeling you get when you get slightly further or in the rare case actually beat the game (I'm lookin at you T.M.N.T) was better than the hollow feeling of finishing a game that was a cake-walk. When I was in my youth I raged pretty hard about such things but I realized that I'm in the minority and that it's not realistic to expect every company to make things I like - instead I simply look for games that have decided to aim for that niche market (or just play old games).
I understand what you're saying and I think it's cool of a BioWare employee to stick up for them, but for me, it just really seems strange to say "destroyed", because nothing has been destroyed, and DA2 contains more of DA1's essence certainly than any other CRPG I can think of out there (including the Witcher games, which are much more in the European "You must be this particular macho dude" tradition).
I sympathize re: easy - one of my favourite games is Demon's Souls, as another poster mentions, and I tend to play BW games on the higher difficulty settings (though not DA2 on nightmare solely because I love AE spells a little too much!).
I think the problem, though, is of "false difficulty" due to balance issues. DA:O wasn't actually harder than DA2, I would suggest, it was just more class-based in it's difficulty. If you took a Mage PC, or god help us, had a party full of mages, and either knew or worked out what you were doing, DA:O quickly became extremely easy even on harder difficulty settings. Trying to play without a well-spec'd Mage or two, especially without a mage and without potion-spamming, the game was quite difficult even on the one-above-normal setting.
With DA2's detractors I see a lot of really questionable claims - you'll have someone who is both claiming that DA2 is "too easy", and that DA2 "shouldn't have nerfed mages". To me it looks like this person just wanted DA2 to be a DA:O-style cakewalk for mages, so he could play one on a harder difficulty setting, and feel like he'd accomplished something, even though what he did far easier, on every level, than playing mage-less party on a lower difficulty level. So I question the priorities involved. DA2's actual game design seems to me to be pretty smart. It's problems seem to largely be a matter of seemingly-rushed development and lack of resources/content.

I finished DAo the first time on nightmare with a Human Noble tank. Using Sten (2H), Morrigan (Crowd/Nerf/dps) and Lelianna (bow/crowd/dps). It was pretty easy all the way to the end. The problem i see with Dragon Age 2 is that sometimes you get spike of difficulty that you can't fight or do something about it. Also the new combo class system is **** and I'm not able to use it correctly (I don't give much effort to use it too. DAo was better for combo spell and special rule). I still like DA2 but DAo gameplay for cross-class ability and spellcombo was WAY better than the thing we get in DA2.
As for the DLC, I think I will buy it...

So did I, Imperium, on the difficulty one down from Nightmare. With a similar party. But the cold fact is, Morrigan was the keystone to that, and I honestly don't believe you if you try to tell me that she isn't necessary to survival with it. It also requires, and I mean hard-requires, quite a lot of potions, simply because no matter how well you play, you take a lot of damage. Not potion-spamming, but you will be using quite a few of them.
I don't agree about cross-class stuff. I found DA:O really limited in that. The number of cross-class combos was absolutely tiny compared to DA2, and most of the combos were Mage comboing with itself, or just Warrior smashing Petrified/Frozen targets. Yawn.
I've not really seen the "difficulty spike" in DA2, but have only finished it with Mage (Force Mage, no Blood Magic, No Anders, No Merrill - except on missions that hard-require them) and Archer-Rogue, and I only play on Hard because FF bores me somewhat. The only fight I ever needed to turn the difficulty down for was Ancient Rock Wraith, and only on the first go-through because I had no idea he was coming and had blown most of my pots.

Unlikely. DAO dlc was a disappointment, esp Witch Hunt. and I didn't enjoy playing DA2 for the most part, esp after contracting the slow down bug. Based on these experiences I can't imagine I'd get 10 bucks worth of fun out of DA2 dlc. So rather than buy it and gripe about it, I think I'll skip it altogether. Ta.
That's the thing, really. ME2's DLC was good enough that I ended up buying all the story-related DLC and I was never disappointed. DA:O's DLC, on the other hand, ranged from mediocre to terrible, and since I felt that DA2 was a disappointment this doesn't set a very good precedent for that game's DLC.
The other problem is that Legacy involves Hawke, a character I've really come to detest. If the DLC were about, say, Varric, I would be far more inclined to buy it, but Hawke? No way. I give precisely zero damns about Hawke and the wretched little world he inhabits. In fact, seeing him on the right side of this page, screaming "WAAAAAAAGH!!!!" is starting to get on my nerves. Luckily Flemeth is on the other side, sneering in contempt and saying, "That's quite enough of THAT, young man!"

I agree completely with this the only problem that I personally had with DA2 was the reusing the same environment over and over again , which makes it quite boring to play.Blacklash93 wrote...
Yes.
People can trash-talk DA2 all they want, but I still enjoy it. It certainly had some serious design issues, but overall I thought it was a good game. Not great by any means or up to Bioware's usual standard of quality, but decent.
But like I said, most of the issues with DA2 have to do with poor design choices and reused environments. A self-contained DLC with all-new environments that has implemented our feedback shouldn't have those problems. So I'm game.
So I most likely am going to buy it.

Maybe. I'm not playing DA2 any more and not that interested in what I've heard about it, but boredom has led me to do stupider things with my money than buy a DLC for a game I don't really like.
Then again, I'm pretty ticked that my Origins saves are broken due to the "unauthorized DLC" bug. DRM sucks, and DLC complicates it.
@Addai67... I was playing Origins this weekend, logged in and found that the DLC bug seems to have been fixed. The servers recognized all of them on my computer. You might want to try this and see fi it's up for you.
My Itinerary for July 26th...
1. Get out of bed
2. Yoga
3. Run in the Park
4. Shower
5. Pancake Breakfast
6. Download Legacy DLC
7. Play til my eyes bleed.
I love vacations!<3
Edited to correct numbering.

Like many others on these boards, he/she may still be interested in the franchise, but not the second game.

It will NOT be re-installed.
Why do I need dlc for it?
Something like that.
To add further I wonder if I even should be interested in the franchise and its future anymore.
Things are not exactly heading for the better.
One good game with a so-so expansion was all it ever was.
I'll treasure my DA:O thank you.

Which makes it doubly frustrating when a company with a long and solid track record of catering to your specific niche seemingly turns its back on the niche to go mainstream.

And then the developers and staff here dismissing those who complained about it has rather also reflected on my choice to hold off on buying. This is why you need a service or store like Steam, Gamestop and Best Buy to sell your products and why Origin (EA STORE) will not work when you have employees talking down to you like they are your boss and they are your staff well can you imagine a Bill Limbergh at gamestop finalizing a sale well talking down to you like your some employee rather then a customer?
Right now I am all for Mass Effect 3 but anything Dragon Age I don't care what they offer in a Pre Order I am going to be smart and wait this time. Then when I and many others disapprove we are spoken to like we are low ranking Bioware employees that should buy their products regardless well you get emails that are almost like they are from someone's boss
Right now Bioware still has plenty to prove to me Chris maybe some customer service lessons are in order as some others here like to remind us you are the only customer service agent here maybe that should change.
