Hi Folks
Was just wondering if there were any fans on here of older games and hardware. I myself have a growing Amiga herd of an A500+, CD32, two A1200s, A4000 and console wise a PS1 and two X Box 1s. I still fire up one of the Amigas regularly for a quick game of UFO, Cannon Fodder, Gloom or Frontier, the PS1 for Colony Wars and the Xbox for Dark Alliance.

So, does anyone else like to re-vist the past?

your in the right place. 90% of the people who post here firmly believe that the only last good RPG was Baldurs Gate 2 or Planescape Torment.

Meh my old school gaming is usually N64 with Goldeneye, Perfect Dark or Megaman. (not megaman 64)

Yep, got both of those. BG2 and PT are true classics. Keep an eye on GOG they are having a mad sale right now. Those two just might come up in it. And yes the N64 was sweet ^_^

COMMODORE 4 LIFE! :P

Yup, I had an A1200, too, and before that, I had a Commodore 64. And before that, all the way back in 1987-ish, I had a Commodore 16. That may be why, depite the vast slew of great games out there today, they'll never be as good as Jeff Minter...

:P

Hell, I even did my undergraduate disseration on why Amigas went down the swanny!

I do re-visit old games occasionally. A few months back I played Turrican 2 on an emulator and not long ago I played UFO : Enemy Unknown. Played BG1 & 2 as well recently. BG2 was a real pain to get to work on a modern computer.

Nope, I got a fairly low grade on my dissertation, but my other modules pulled my grade up

The C64 still remains one of my favourite gaming platforms, to this day, with two games always standing out as favourites: International Karate+ and Creatures 2: Torture Trouble. I still remember taking the p**s out of my best mate, since he only had a 16 colour Speccy...

I'd like to point out that everyone in this thread so far is my kinda people!

C16? Heh, I remember when they were still newfangled contraptions: the VIC20 was where it was at! :D Although my Dragon 32 was more advanced in many respects, I still envied the VIC20 for its bigger colour palette and sound channels, though I didn't envy its meagre 5KB memory...

Never had any Amiga's though my friend had a few when i was young. They were so easy to copy games and trade them on nobody at the time thought of it as being illegal lol. I still own several Atari models, A Commadore 64,Sega Master System II,Sega Mega Drive (Genesis),Sega Saturn and Dreamcast, Nintendo wise i own the NES,SNES,Famicom and N64 several Game Boy's,Neo Geo and Neo Geo Pocket systems and a whole bunch more.

I think many people who talk about the console wars now weren't alive to witness the playground massacres that started over: "C64 vs Speccy"...

The C64 was a favourite amongst my group of friends, at least partly for that reason, with the games coming on audio tapes (no fancy floppy drives for us, no sirree). I rememeber maaaaaaaaaaaaany games I borrowed off my friend, sticking them in my dad's tape deck, pressing high speed dubbing, and remembering to turn the sound down, to avoid blowing his speakers out... lol

LLAMATRON! I think I love you...

:P

Although I concede, that was one of the Jeff Minter games I DIDN'T play, so I had to use Google Fu...

Also, this next bit is going to sound excessively shouty and hyper, but...

I've got my X-COM disc on my desk right this minute. (That's the US release of UFO -- the funny thing is that they only changed the title on the box, so when you boot the game up it still says UFO).

What's wrong with BG2 on a modern computer, anyway?

Hey that is great news. Hopefully that will encourge more retro re-makes, although I have saw some modern games get a retro make over on You Tube. Like Halo and there was even a fake 8 bit Starcraft. Pure class

@AlanC9 would that be UFO Defense? In the UK it was called Enemy Unkown

Personally I hate the word 'retro', because no two people have the same meaning for what the word means. Your 'retro' is not my 'retro' I grew up with Castlevania, Megaman, Ninja Gaiden for the NES. That is my definition of retro. I'm sure many people here have a different meaning for the word.

My mom got rid of our NES and SNES... and all the games for both.

It's sad because I think she just threw them in the trash. Both still worked, even though the NES was kind of broken.

Yeah, and then some people even go back to the Atari.

And how about the very first Gameboy.

It's not truly retro unless it involves punch-cards...

I do agree that "retro" is very much a generational thing, but that is what makes it interesting, Depending when we all got into gaming, one person's retro could be another's cutting edge. Me? I only completed Half Life 1 about 3 years ago. I just had to find out what all the hoo ha was about. Yep, it does not matter when you started gaming, whether it was a speccy, a miggy, a SNES or a Game Boy, all points are valid. The important thing is we remember those games and platforms from the past.

You're just trying to deflect attention away from the fact we're old enough to be considered primeval gamers...

I had several Atari STs (we kept getting burgled when I was growing up), does this mean that we have to fight OP since you owned an Amiga? ;)
