Shepard was dead for two years. Your relationship with whoever you were with was ended by death. There isn't really a set of boundaries you can go by if your partner gets revived. There's a number of facts to consider.

1) It's been like two months for Shepard. If the relationship in ME1 was any more then a fling, there would probably be lingering feelings there.
2) All the ME1 romances remained single, regardless of knowing that you were dead. You got into bed with someone new a few months later.
3) Do some of the ME2 romances even know about your relationship in ME1? How do they feel about possibly being a relationship with someone whose previous relationship was never officially over? Wouldn't they like to know that?
4) The ME1 romances probably understand that you may not have the same feelings for them. Especially after they left you to the Suicide Mission. That doesn't mean that they're gonna stop loving you.

It's a big open ended complicated mess of a relationship right now. I think it will be more behind the scenes drama more than anything else. Maybe a comment here and there about it. But if Shepard chooses to be with one over the other, I highly doubt that there's going to be a massive brawl.

Someone's gonna get hurt though. I think anyone you've had relationship with is going to believe they had something special. You know, with the whole on the brink of death, we've been through so much together, etc. So if you tell either one of them that they were essentially just some meaningless fling...

Wow, I think I'll just stick to romancing one person per Shepard for now.

I can kind of see Jack and Thane being hurt by that, maybe. What about Garrus or Tali, though? Wouldn't they have already known that Shepard was previously involved with Liara or the VS?

I would think that both Garrus and Tali would know about  Shepard being with either Liara or VS.  It is wierd they never mentioned it.  If you was not faithful to Liara and do the LotSB after the SM, and you ask about your relastionship during the third interrupt on the balcony, she knows about it and calls you out on it, but(weird too) if you do the kiss interrupt after defeating the yahg, she acts like you never were with anyone, but if you don't do the interrupt then ask about her relationship with Feron, she tells Shepard, "Are you jealous, Commander?  Maybe you should do something about that."  If you don't ask about the relastionship again, it's over, but if you ask, you tell Liara you want her, but she doesn't want any issues.

I'm wondering how this is going to be handled with Ashley or Kaidan.

I just wanted the achievement in ME1. I didn't like Ashley or Liara, so it better not become too complicated.

Why yes, I purposely romanced Kaidan because I knew I was going to move on and get serious with Thane, solely for the ~*dramatic*~ tension and 'catfight' they'll have. Why do you ask?

Yes, I'm sitting in a handbasket, and there's room for more. Romantic drama is comedy gold to me. I'll be sticking with Thane; Kaidan is a bit too bland porridge for my tastes.

In all seriousness, I just hope none of the ME2 LI roll over when the ME1 LI comes to confront Shepard about it. It doesn't have to be something along the lines of the Miranda/Jack showdown in ME2, but people just standing aside would annoy the hell out of me. I'm special, goddamit, bring forth the lulz.

It has indeed been confirmed there will be love triangle drama if you weren't faithful to your partner from ME1. Can't wait to see Garrus get all angry at Kaidan for being such a son of b%$@# to me.

Also, I believe certain crew members may know of your relationship to the previous LI, such as Garrus or Tali. Which may make them more understanding of why Shepard did what s/he did. Garrus was pisssseeed at Kaidan. Besides, if you WANT to get technical about it, the relationship with previous LI WAS over... at least in Kaidan and Ash's corner, Kaidan was dating someone else when he saw Shepard again.

Actually I can see Thane doing the "noble thing" and letting Shep go with his blessing, telling her something in lines of "If I had a future to offer you I would have done everything in my power to be by your side, but I do not. Being with you brought joy and beauty to the down of my life and I treasure the memory for as long as I have left"
Garrus will probably agree that Shep needs someone "closer to home" for a long run, joke about the allergies and say that as long as Shep is a part of his live he is happy, no matter what she choses.
Never had the guts to suffer through Jakob's romance, so can't say for sure, but I bet her'll be understanding as well.
Liara was very calm about Shep offering threesomes and what not in ME1, so I imagine she will be ok with whatever Shep did, as long as (s)he ends up back in her arms. Actually on a whild chance that there is an option for a three way relationship (not that I think there will be) Liara would have to be the one ME1 LI that would go for it I think.
Kaiden... I can see some serious trouble brewing here, not with other LIs but for Shep, I actually woun't be surprised if you can't continue his romance if you "cheated".

Seeing as Kaidan moved on first, it'd be highly hypocritical of him to pitch a fit over Shepard dating someone else.

I really, really, really hope Garrus and Thane don't roll over. It's the end of the world- if you love them, then say so, don't just flop over and take it. I mean, after you make the choice? Sure. But during the actual confrontation, if Thane just sort of 'Yeah, you're right Kaidan- take her' or something, I will eat my controller. Or just refuse to romance Kaidan in ME1, whatever.

Confrontation? If there is going to be one it will be between Shep and LI, not ME1 LT and ME2 LI - Shepard is not a bone to be fought over. At last if they did it my renegade Shep would shoot both I think
I think if you start flirting with ME1 LI, the ME2 LI would ask Shep if she wanted them to let her go - all of ME2 romances are written in such a way that it can be a one time thing, I do hope that we will be able to turn them in to something more, but right now they can be discarded with little damage. If there is going to be any confrontation between LIs it would probably be only if Shep picked the ME2 LI and the ME1 was not trilled about it...

The devs have used the term catfight, which insinuates that it will be between the LI, not between Shepard and the ME1 LI. I'm thinking it will be something like the Liara and the VS 'thing' in ME1.

The ME2 can be played as a fling, but the ME2 LI does not see it that way. They are very serious about the relationship.

Actually they do - it's the "thing before we all most likely die horribly" - they may be emotionally invested, but not expecting to survive post the first date puts a dumper on the future plans, don't you think? Sot he "what now?" Question is till very meaningful in any ME2 romances.
I did not hear the devs saying anything about the "catfight", where was that info?
And as I sad - that catfight even if it is possible would probably only happen if Shep purposefully leads both on, or picks ME2 LI.

Honestly I can't see any problem with " love triangle" between Kaidan ( in my case ) and Thane.
First, previous relationship is over becouse Shepard is dead. For Kaidan, theirs relationship ended two years ago. Is he still in love with Shep? Maybe, ( well he said on Horizon that he loved her) but it don't give him any rights for jealousy. Also Kaidan moved on..again, he had two years for " rebuild" his personal life, he went on a date ( and I think, it's nice and better that he want to start a new relationship with someone, than have obsession towards dead woman), and my Shep have right to move on too. Also after Horizon, and mail, for me it's clear, that they are done ( I even had a option to tell Kelly something like it's over or a past, can't remember now). So no, I don't think about my Shep that she is a " cheater" and I don't expect any " triangle" problems, there's no true reasons for it, well...maybe onlyt Devs " drama" ideas ( and maybe that's a true reason why we havn't any chance to officially " broke up" with ME1 LI in ME2, well except Liara in DLC).
