When you start the game for the first time, will you make moral decisions based on how you feel at that time? Or will you make decisions based on what your character would do? In other words, have you created a backstory for your character that would guide his or her decisions?

Bit of both, and it would also be in relation to what has happened previously.

Well backstory I wouldn't call but I've created a loose background on my character that tells what kind of a person she is, and I'm going to use that on my first playthrough, and I think that I'll do the same for the others..

This one, here. *taps on the compass* ....it's broken.

For the most part, I make decisions based on how I feel at the time. My friends and family always shake their heads when I order at a resteraunt. I end up looking at the menu until the waiter asks me what I want. I then stop moving my eyes and what they land on, I get.  I've gotten some...interesting things that way.

I will try to get a feel for the game world before I start setting my characters moral-compass. Most likely it will be set from how I believe my character would choose, not me, though.

My first character in all RPG´s that allow it, is always an evil bastard (see avatar, heh). All decisions ingame will be based on the characters perverted mind. The character after that will be a goody-two-shoes.

Summarized: all my characters are mostly black/white, and act according to their mindset.

I usually end up playing a character as myself for my first playthrough and then I'll go back and "roleplay" with my other characters.

I think I'm going to try role-playing through my character. I want her to be selfish but not cruel. Whenever I try to commit to being a total jerk, a part of me regrets it!

I'm going to see how the early part of the game starts out, and then play it from there.

Yes I made a backstory and/or have characterized my character. Of course this may need some adaptions, but the basic attitude is fixed.

For me, this is the core element of roleplaying: interactive storytelling, not play-acting. When something bothers me so much that it would influence my RPG characters, I better take care of it in real life.

My character's moral compass was somewhat broken by a sparring accident when she was younger. That is the one I will probably use. (It IS the only one she'd have access to)

That's what I do as well.  I'm always curious as to what I would do in various situations first, and deal with all the unknown consequences that come with those decisions.  Then in subsequent playthroughs, I can pretend to be completely evil and feel bad about it afterwards. 8[

I will be choosing the most benevolent and lawful courses of action with my human warrior, with an emphasis on choosing to save lives whenever possible (lawful good). With my elf mage I will likely be more impartial and make decisions that are as objective and logical as possible with an emphasis on the greater good and the ends justifying the means (chaotic good). I have not decided what to play my rogue as yet, either in terms of alignment or race, but he will quite possibly be some flavour of evil.

My dwarf commoner warrior is angry at the world. If he gets blackmailed he will respond with the fury of a thousand suns.

I more often than not follow my own moral compass when playing characters. Which is why most off my characters can be best described as "chaotic good". But when I do veer off course its either to the extreme evil or extreme good side. And quite consistently throughout the playthrough too.

My first play through is going to be an Evil Mage. Usually, I do like to create a whole backstory for my characters, but I just don't know enough or haven't done enough research on the world of DA:O to formulate a lot of good ones. The only **really** in-depth one I've got is for my Female Dwarf Commoner. She'll essentially start neutral, but with what happens to her prior to her Origin Story, during, and after, have and will serve to determine what kind of 'alignment' she'll be. She's essentially good, but she's been through so much trauma that at this point, it's hard to say where the compass will stop spinning...

I use a backstory, always. I like making personalities and backgrounds for my characters and prefer adhering to that than just picking answering that 'fit my mood'.

Sometimes I try to do character-ish decisions, but most of the time it's just me. It's kind of like how I've tried to be evil in kotor and similar games but I just can't do it and end up playing re-runs doing all the same moral decisions lol

This time, I'll try to act out of an Elven point of view more though.

My first character will be.. well, me.When it comes to how he'll act, that is. The 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc will be played through their personalities.

I'm a lightsider. I'm interested in seeing how that works out.
