Hey, I havn't yet purchased Dragon Age yet. I was wondering if there is any downside to owning it on steam?

I also wonder, how exactly does DLC work with steam? Free DLC or paid DLC.

Any feedback on these topics is appreciated.

Thanks.

I own it on Steam, and there's no downsides yet. They'll provide you with the keys to register your game and unlock DLC on this site. When I purchased DA:O I was given two codes, one for the game and one for DLC - neither was labeled well, so try both codes when you register if the first one you try gives you an error.

Once your game is registered to your account, the DLC will auto-download once you log into the game.

I purchased enough points for the Warden's Keep DLC, so I purchased it in game from the NPC.

It'll auto-patch the game, as well.

I purchased it w/ Steam. No problems, save 10-15 minutes I was having trouble with Steam and could not log in.

I have no experience with any DLC yet. Nothing positive or negative to say.

Of course, it goes without saying, I was playing 45-50 minutes after deciding to purchase it.

-Cheers!

You have had no problems with the DLC?  I have been unable to get any DLC.  I entered both codes and registered, still within game I show no DLC to download.  I have also purchased points to buy the DLC, at this point it looks like a waste of 20$

Killabeas head to tech support forum and find the thread for help with installing dlc. Also you can manual install it as well. That should fix all your issues.

I don't recall whether or not my unpaid DLC downloaded automatically. I believe you need to go to the "downloadable content" tab in-game and click on each item to get it to download.

But essentially, yes - there is very little you need to do to get it working. I had no problems whatsoever.

i had to go on the bioware site, log into my account, redeem the keys, then start the game up and log on to the game with my bioware account to initiate them downloading the first time. but it's not that hard. anybody with most of a brain (maybe less than most of a brain) should be able to do it without trouble.

edit:
also, there are some settings on steam that enable you to have the program automatically download new content and on the DAO main loading screen.  if you click on Downloadable Content on the DAO main screen you can redeem points and buy new DLC , then the third tab will enable/disable content

in steam, click on My games, then right click on Dragon Age Origins, Properties, Updates and check the box "Always Keep this Game up to date."

hope that helps.

On Steam the toolset may be a tad more painful to install but otherwise I've encountered no problems. Works like a dream.

Steam though however requires you to be logged in to the Steam servers, Impulse doesn't need you to be logged in to their servers to launch the game after the first time.

Incorrect. I can play my Steam-downloaded DA:O when I am offline as well. You only need to be online to get DLC the first time.

This is untrue. You only need to be logged in when you initially purchase the game or game addons, you can go offline after that.

I've had zero problems with steam. Personally I purchased the digital deluxe edition and got warden's keep as part of the deal as well, and its all worked fine.

Steam worked great for me so far. Though if you plan to mod the game later, you might need to play around with steam installations folders abit. With regards to manually installing DLCs and Mods such as the new dagger -the Edge- on steam, if the file is in the .dazip format, you would need to run the daupdater at programmes files>steamapps>common>dragon age origins>bin_ship. Else, for other file formats, I think it should go into the overide folder found in documents>BioWare>Dragon Age. Had not tried the latter out though.

Everything said here is false.
