Woah now, that's a stretch.

If you were in your 20s dating a woman in her 40s you'd practically have to get a mistress already.

Only if a man felt sex was the most important part of a relationship, and was drawn primarily to women in the same age range. I wrote my post under the assumption this was an actual romantic relationship developing.

If you are referring to the possibility of death, it is still meaningless because any of us can die at any time for any number of reasons. People frequently end up widowed and forced to move on alone, or eventually enter a new relationship. Simultaneous couple deaths are not a universal truth.

It was a joke, but countless men do things along those lines (start dating a 20ish person when they are married/"serious" with someone in their late 30s or 40s.

Why? Good question. 40+ and can't control his carnal side? I doubt it has anything to do with fear of death.

I threw that in because some people do consider their partner's possible earlier death in a relationship with a big age gap. In any case, I took it seriously on account of having no ability to detect sarcasm online unless beaten over the head with it. ;)

I do not want to get into what could easily turn into a man generalizing and bashing thing here, but yeah... men who do that are well... nope! Not getting into it! :P

Age is just a number...
Besides, women live longer on average than men do. All the better. :3
Plus women in their 30s are ...awesome in bed.

Should younger men legitimately date older women?

Can they? Yes.
Should they? That's up to your personal set of ethics.

Love, much like life, is unfortunately mucked in circumstance - proximity to each other, careers, age differences. If you feel like the relationship is going somewhere you can at least attempt to pursue it. Better to try and fail than to never know in the first place. Would I personally? Again, it depends on more than age difference, but it's a factor I take into account. As seagloom also mentioned, people can fade out of life at any time, any moment - wouldn't you want to look for some brief glimmer of meaning and hope in a world full of loathing and indifference?

Part of me thinks sympathy is trying to incite Off-Topic's BSN members... nonetheless, that is my taking-things-too-seriously response to this thread.

Wasn't that fun?

LMAO I know four couples where the woman is older than the man, the age gap is five to eight years among al four couples. They are very happy. Age is just a number.

What is with the age a**hattery going on? Get a grip! If you like her and she's smoking hot and willing to give you the time of day. Tap that a** and be done with it!

So, grow a pair and have fun! Dang.

The only time I have an issue with it is when the ages are way off, say 17 and 34 or such. You know when the other person is as old s your parent, then thats getting into ****ed up region. Like a family member of mine is dating some dude thats old as her son. Needless to say the son is not happy with that at all.

Eh dealing with parents dating is always.. awkward..?

My mother is dating someone in her age region and appears to be a decent person. Then again, I haven't looked into his background that much.

However, I hate him passionately.

Why? He's not my Dad, and my misguided sense of honor tells me to have no respect for him.

Ehh its not an issue with him in those two reguards. Trust me on that, he hates his real dad, and his mom did remarry and had dated before, the guy being the same age of him and a hood rat really pisses him off. He even passes on there going on's to his ex step dad in the hopes he'll beat him down. It has strained his relations with his mother which were never good to start with. To the point is just fixing to get out of school and has told her, with his job he's out of there as soon as it happens. And this man isn't nice enough as you say, he's a drugie and a hood rat.

Oh, if my mother was dating someone that I knew was a druggie or a drunkard, I do everything in my power to destroy that relationship. I best not go into details... but some things I've no tolerance for.

What Gnas said (plus, funny :))

My mum went out with a bloke 15 years younger than herself. Given that she'd spent the decade and a half since my dad died completely on her own, I was just pretty happy that she had someone again.

Also, five years isn't a 'gap' as much as it is a 'small margin'. Unless one of them's 12 and one's 17.
Also, 32 - NOT OLD. Whatever the hell happened to 40 being the new 20??!

Hmm no need, I have issues in my own reguard to people like that. As to you OP My Grandma and grandpa had 8 years between them. Its not too big of an issue the older you get, well unless they are old enough to be your mom, or young enough to be your daughter. Well unless they are rich and live in a house full of tall stairs...accidents happen.

<< >>

Also to the above, simple economic down drop, people finally seeing they aren't so young, the life expectantcy droping again. Oh well as to that funny enough you mention that, I would not be happy if my step dad dated again, given my mom died, and he's pretty old and not in the best of shape, honestly I think him getting envolved with anyone again would be another bitter sweet tale. And I have told him as much, which he never has botherd to dispute me on it.

It must be a myth perpetuated by the media. People say it, but local perception of youth seems unchanged from my perspective.

Only cause they are scared of the Reaper waiting in the wings muwhahahaha. Funny enough I doubt I'll be like that when I hit that age, I mean **** I was called "Old man" in middleschool, and tend to act like the Old Man off of Pawn Stars (IE never smiles rarely and is very up front and strict) Hell even my step dad thats nearly twice my age when he talks about music or celiberty **** and I say Idk or I don't care, he just goes "You are an old man, you should keep people at the nursing home company" funny enough I like talking to old people.

There is no hope for me. Image IPB

Once she hits 35, you should trade her in for a younger model.

I've dated men younger than myself and am currently doing so. So far I've not had any complaints, or funny looks for that matter.

Besides, I think some men enjoy having an older women because we can show them how it's really done.
