But at least Origins was a good game so the graphics were the least important thing and remember it used to look like this.

This strangely reminds me of Prince of Persia.:blink:

Saw this still not a must buy for me. Actual Legacy gameplay starts at 2:45. Also this is casual mode which is why everything dies so easy.

Dragon Age 2: Legacy - Stage Demo Gameplay Trailer

LOL, Ringo... did you read the comments on the video? If BW compared them to any Origins video comments, they'd bury DA2 and start working hard on an epic DA3 because 2 has no salvation.

The fact that you literally had to play the game twice to get all the story (the dragon choice at the end especially annoyed me) was what soured me to TW2.

I was thinking that this is best part of the whole game.

Same here but I guess people like him would prefer to be spoon fed all the information and lore the game has to offer.

Ringo, I got no idea why you feel the need to belittle those that didn't like something you did. It's getting to be offensive. I mean, I'm beginning to think you made this thread just to make fun of people.

DA2. was mediocre at best.

I thought it was decent. There are many poor design decisions in the game, but the base combat was fun (if a bit fast) and I enjoyed questing.

What really dragged DA2 down was, like I said before, poor design. Restricting the player to only a few static areas and recycling dungeons endlessly made for a bland setting and that obviously didn't set well with players. Enemies falling from the sky didn't help. But that's also the saving grace for the DA2 DLC. If those design flaws are rectified, then what we're left with is solid gameplay in new areas with not a single parachuting mercenary in sight.

If you didn't like the combat then... well you're out of luck. But I'd like to think most people were fine with the combat despite its slightly overly frantic pace.

I didn't mind the combat. I thought the skill trees were actually very good.
And while, yes, the ridiculous njinja hopping was over-the-top, I could EASILY live with that if everything else was on par with a good RPG.
But it wasn't. Severaly KEY areas were sorely lacking, and what's worse, not because BW doesn't know how to do it (they've been doing it for more than a decade), but because they OPTED not to do it and to try and "cater to the COD crowd", etc.:

- customization was limited - from masseffying the main character to taking away abilities like Persuasion, Stealing, etc.
- companion interaction was limited - both talking to them and not being able to tinker with their armor
(speaking of which, companions were mostly annoying, black-and-white, one-track mind, immature, irritating douches)
- quests were idioticly simple, WoW-like... teleport to an area, run to an exclamation mark, kill, go back.
No quest take longer than 15 minutes, no quest requires to think one bit about it
- exploration and research were pretty much booted out of the game
- the world felt fake... made for you to level in, instead of a real world where you happen to adventure
- Act 3 was a big joke... And while I appreciate what they tried to do with the story (smaller scale), it was done in an awful was, and the only interesting bit (Qunari) was quickly shunned aside in the next Act
- the environment is bland and empty and barren and brown (but at least it's consistent, like their marketing director bragged)
- the re-used areas, waves of enemies, etc etc.

I though DA2 was decent after my first playthrough too.
But once the novelty wore off, my opinion changed. I consider it just plain bad.

There are very few redeeming qualities about it, and the worst part of it is knowing BW willingly stepped away from making a properly good RPG, to a what they consider a winning formula, an easier to make mish-mash of ME, hack-n-slash with elements of MMO to it.

Seeing the new Legacy video... I don't see what's changed.
The whole DLC looks like it was copy-pasted from an MMO instance run...
And the environment in the background is so bland and empty, makes me just so angry what they did to the franchise.

Yeah. Even on YT they complain about gameplay video (and about game itself). This one Bioware failure will probably smell bad on Bioware for quite some time. Until they release some good RPG like in old days to make people forget about this crap.

I wouldn't judge the entire product based off of a few minutes of footage of one area. If Bioware manages to fix DA2's major design flaws, then the DLC should be able to stand on its own.

If you liked DA2's combat and don't mind the less-than-stellar graphics we've come to expect, Legacy shouldn't worry you.

But it's just a dlc...how can it possibly fix anything? I'm assuming Legacy isn't anywhere near as big as say borderlands or GTA IV dlc.

Kirkwall? Out of the picture.
Recycled areas? Gone.
Enemies appearing out of thin air? Gone.

It's not going to touch the main game, but it will fix some of the issues from the main game in the DLC. That will help this content stand on its own.

I'm not saying you're wrong, if you can enjoy the game that way, but personally, I'm afraid I can't.
I view a DLC as an add-on to the original, not a game in itself.
And as such, I can't see this DLC satisfying my RPG needs after the game was such a huge let-down.

This wasn't a very good demo. If BioWare were trying to convince us that they've been listening to criticism, then showing us a corridor and a boss fight that the guy button-mashes to death (and no dialogue) was probably not the best route. Hopefully we see something more worthwhile at Comic-Con. =/

I'm just appalled at the environment. I know I've said it before, but look at the background at 2.58-3.02 in the video.

That's like.... Commodore 64 quality.

And it's behavior like that that made me quit TW2 altogether. This smug, condescending attitude that comes out if that sacred cow of a game is criticized at all. (I adored TW2 myself, played through it 3 times) Sadly now the only word that comes to my mind if I read "The Witcher 2" is......overrated. :(

Heh If I let the Bioware commnity effect how I viewed my games I would hate Mass Effect 2 and love Dragon Age 2 and hate any studio who gives Bioware competition.

Regardless of who it is, whenever a company representative gets up to talk about a product the correct response is to ask yourself: "What is that -ing liar -ing lying about now?"

Why do the pride demons stand around waiting to die? Would it be so hard to give them a rogue script for movement? That would make the battles more interesting and challenging.
At least this time their special ability was not 'falling down'.

That was a mock up made with NWN engine. I don't even think the engine had been started yet for DAO. I mean really of all the things to bring up and bash... Image IPB

How does RL people affect a single player game? And I'm sorry to say that you changing your opinion about TW2 from "the bestest RPG I've ever played" to "overrated" will not make DA2 any better. And there is no smug, condescending attitude by anyone that can make TW2 less than the best RPG in a long time.

Hi. * waves *

F.

Why are you admitting to saying that? I'm curious as to whether you were simply point-blank lying, or whether you seriously believe that the fans liked all the new things you introduced in DA2. Surely it's illogical to make that claim when the first DLC already changes much of the new changes; for example, repeated areas are gone, enemy waves are much fewer, etc... So you think that fans really liked not being able to customise their companions, and having an inventory where everything was 'ring' or 'amulet' with generic names?

Seriously - I'm curious as to whether you genuinely think that.

I haven't changed my opinion on the game at all. It's still brilliant IMHO. But the obsessive behavior of some of its fans is kinda irritating. It's like the damn thing is SACRED and God help you if you do not worship it!

And I am not saying that TW2 being seriously overrated makes DAII any less or more than it is. A game can be overrated and still be pretty darn brilliant. (Hello Morrowind!) The best RPG in a long time? With a protagonist completely set in stone (Much more so than DAO and DAII) and one of the few actual RPG decisions (Triss or Shani?) being ignored entirely by the sequel? I think not. To me TW2 is a brilliant Action Adventure with amazing RP elements. TW1 had more RPG (As in ROLE playing versus build building) elements IMHO.

Absolutely not.

I'm seriously glad CDPR produced TW2. It's one of the most brilliant games I ever played. But will it erase well over a decade of enjoyment Bioware has provived in my case? Let's talk in 2017. (TW1 was released in 2007 after all. And unplayable)

They used the GOG Forums after TW2's release. Dunno if the official forums are back up now. Don't care to find out anymore. It's brought up here constantly, to a point where discussing a game I happen to love (TW2) has become utterly annoying.
