I've recently come across Interregnum by The Naked Pen, and while I'm fairly new to reading fanfiction I can say it is easily one of the best pieces of writing I have ever read. Being that the auther has such a way with words I find myself having high expectations when it comes to reading anything else, which has been giving me trouble when trying to find more fanfic to nibble on.
So here goes... Does anyone know of any wonderfully written Mass Effect fanfiction that focuses on characters prior to them knowing Shepard? i.e. Thane during his prime assassination years, Zaeeds' freelancing or Joker during flight school? I'm not enitely picky about which character(s) the fanfic is based around, as long as the character is believably written, but here are a few specifications:
- No Shepard at all, none!
- Focus is on a character (whether major or minor) that appears in one or both of the ME games
- Story predates Shepard or occurs during 2 year 'downtime'
The fanfic does not have to be complete, nor does length matter (although the longer the better really

Oh and to anyone with the time/interest I really would suggest checking out Interregnum on fanfiction.net; its' focus is on Garrus and his initially acccidental acquisition of a team during the 2 years Shepard was KIA. It is over 200,000 words and counting though, but it's been such a worthwhile read.
