Hey, I'm new to these forums so I need help on a problem I'm having with ME2 please. (Physical disc format | MassEffect2.EXE version 1.02)

I'm running it on...

(Specs from Configuration Utility)
Processor
AMD Athlon™ II X4 640 Processor
Clock Speed: 2993 MHz
RAM (DDR2): 3.49 GB

-

Display Adapter / Video Card
NVIDIA GeForce GT 430
VRAM: 1.00GB
Driver version: 275.33

-

Sound Adapter:
Realtek HD Audio output (Driver version: 5.10.0.6392)

-

OS:
Microsoft Windows XP Professional (SP3)
DirectX version: DirectX 9.0c (Mar2009) or later

The main problem I'm having with ME2 is that the game freezes at random times during gameplay (ie. Prologue missions, Omega) and it doesn’t happen in the same spot each time, it can occur anywhere at anytime. Sometimes the game manages to unfreeze itself but I am left with messy textures (Shepard's face is messed up, the screen becomes messed up) or it crashes my whole system and I have to restart my computer (or sometimes both). I started having this problem after first installing the game and playing it for about three hours. As I said before, this issue can pop up at any point in the game and it is becoming more frequent to the point where I don't want to play it anymore. I'm not using any save game editors, mods, trainers, etc. I'm just playing ME2 normally.

This also occurred in another game (Oblivion) and it's really starting to bother me like hell... :?

I've tried the following.
- Installed older drivers related to my video card (NVIDIA 260.89)
- Defragged my drive
- Reinstalling ME2
- Adjusting RAM speed from 800MHZ to 1066MHZ (Though this resulted in my OS getting a BSOD, had to change it back)

Any help would be appreciated thanks, this game is awesomesauce and I really want to get it running.

I'm no expert but I think this could be an overheating issue. It happens in two different games that use different engines and it's getting more frequent, which could mean the hardware is deteriorating further. My advice would be to download software to check temperatures, like CoreTemp and Speedfan.

Oh okay, thanks mate. I thought it would have something to do with the memory. I'll have to check the temperatures then.
