I don't really care what they do with the quarians. I think it was a retarded idea to hide them from the player in the first place, even though almost everyone in the galaxy knows what quarians actually look like (aside from the hillbillies who've never been off the homeworld, who think quarians are cyborgs.)

What I am saying is it's ridiculous to expect Bioware to live up to some higher artistic standard and integrity, when they've already shown not once but twice that they're perfectly willing to indulge in the creation of fanservice races. They're not above cheap titillation, like it or not, that's just how it is.

Huh, firstly I thought you'd care that much about quarians that you make such a riot about it. Now I get the feeling that you just don't like the design of the aliens within the ME lore. Anyway, at this point we can only speculate about how they're going to look like IF BioWare decides to show us Tali or quarians in general. If what you say -- that they'll make them cute and sweet and sexy looking -- comes true, I... just make the most of it. *winks at Tali*

Yes, it is. Your past state was, "Bioware already did the Beautiful alien route so they can't back out now and do an alien looking alien route."

I never said any such thing.

What you stated was..."Why should asari? Why should drell? Both were specifically designed to
be attractive. It's way too late for Bioware to play the "aliens
shouldn't be attractive" card."
But your completly forgot about Garrus, a turian who is a LI and is not beautiful by human standerds by any means.....Bioware can make quarin look anyway they want and still make them LI. Heck, the can make Hanar LI. Ithas nothing to do with how they look but how you preserve them.(AKA beauty in eye of the beholder.)
Anyway, my point is that they already did make an alien looking humanoid a LI, even Thane is under that classification. The fact that they look alien has no relivence to the romace at all. But the fact remains that they did the "alien looking route" already and can do it agian if they want to.

I think the way to go at it , is to look at quarian sculptures... as we don't have any we go for the next best thing...

Geth... no i'm not suggesting quarrians have flashlights for faces... they have two glowing eyes and a human nose... we can see that much. But what we cant see is anythign surrounding that area.

I bring the geth up only because the quarrians -made- them , you can see the similarities in their physique... three fingers, backward bending legs....

Now what we know of Quarrian evolution is that they evolved as a pollenator for plants on their home world. They probablly orginated on all fours.. that explains the backward facing lower legs...and long necks..

Mammalian in nature... because..well they have breasts, breasts on females aside from -fun- are used to feed the young...

Mammals have -hair- mostly and so do most things that pollenate as they collect pollen via hair..

If i were to design, i would mix up "legions head plates" with hair under it.. I'd also assume that as the only species on the world that fell to the pollenator task, there were no other types of animal to consume on this homeworld... hense quarrians are probablly herbavores and maybe even pollen drinkers.. which would require a nifty flexible tongue.... ((moar fun))

This is a hypothesis rather than a theory as not all the info is in... but I would also suspect that skin coloring would be white ((not caucasian)) but pure white, just because of the lack of sunlight...and the fact that facial features are still visible through dark visors... you just need very very light skin to see it through a polarised glass dome, if their skin was dark, you'd only see the glowing eyes through the mask...

It could be done to look asthetically pleasing, however I don't have mad drawing skills, but hell we already going to know that tali can't get away from that loonnng neck..

as for the lower jaw, I should think it's more pronounced and forward jutting like the mask that contains it.

That's forming a hypothesis based on limited data, so It's not a theory by any standard..

Very well written, stewie1974! Hopefully, BioWare have similar viewpoints on what you've presented! I like your assumptions because they seem to be logical -- at least from a human point of view. And let's face it, even BioWare designers are human beings, right? Having read what you summarize I'd say I'm looking forward to seeing Tali if the devs make it your way!

@dreman9999: I didn't forget about Garrus. Garrus has nothing to do with this. When Garrus was created, he wasn't a love interest for the player character. He wasn't designed to be. Asari were: Liara. Drell were: Thane. Quarians are unique in that while not originally conceived as potential LI (though it was considered, but the devs thought nobody would like the chicken-leg girl) they can be made "visually appealing" without creating a retcon. Ergo my statement that they're not at all similar to the situation with Garrus.

@Kavain: what concerns me is this pretentious attitude that Bioware are above fanservice. It's an utterly laughable idea. That's exactly what the asari and drell are. Bioware have said this themselves, repeatedly. They specifically wanted the "hot blue space chicks" ala Star Trek for Captain Kirk Commander Shepard to bang. When they created Thane, they carefully designed his face to enhance the features they thought female gamers would find attractive. Again, they've specifically stated in unambiguous plain English that this was the case. So I think it's absurd to pretend like it's something they're above doing, and can't/won't/shouldn't do for the quarians. They have before, they can do it again, and they're likely considering it now and drafting concept art right now as we post in this thread.

I made no predictions about what they're going to do with quarians, but I'll make one now. Assuming they do reveal quarians, my money's on them looking distinctly humanoid with features and proportions (i.e. golden ratio) to make them appealing and visually attractive, with an exotic alien flair (asari blue skin and scalp folds, Thane's various facial features and structure)

They aren't going to look like vorcha, they aren't going to have tentacles for a mouth, a beak, six eyes, etc. etc.

well the golden ratio holds true for anything in the natural universe anyway. Even a reaper abides by it, heck so do aracni.. the distance between one claw head thing and the other is ...-insert golden ratio here-... It's a basic design element -everything- abides by in order to pass... they are never going to introduce something that dosn't..heck even the hanar follow it.

Uhm... I'm not sure I can follow you completely. Is it that you find it disturbing and hypocritically of BW that they create aliens for us to be interested in them? I mean sex sells. Always has. They want their game to succeed. So I could understand that, if they do so.

On the other hand, quarians have a different story than let's say the asari. I trust BioWare that they stick to their lore. Hence, make them 'quarian'. If quarians look appealing to us... Gee... Worse things have happened. D'you know what I mean?

You're dense. I'm not repeating my actual argument for a third (or whatever) time. Good day.

To be fair, we were always able -- from the very beginning of ME1 -- to see that Tali has gotten 2 eyes and a nose. It's not like she's going to look like... Dunno... Harby I guess. Or s/thing really ugly. However, I bet you're right about your guesses. Why would they make her look ugly? She's got a massive fanbase at her heels. Poor girl!

I honestly like this. Also people need to remember these pictures are of males, so quit griping about Tali because we haven't seen the female design.

That better be hair and not something what Asari have.

i dont think so, i feel that hair would be a hassle for quarians considering that mean they'd need haircuts. unless they have something in their suits to stop hair growth, or cuts their hair and they have a way to get rid of it out their suit.

The concept is nice, not so human like. But i still prefer them not to show the face.
PS Well, taking in mind the Quoriance don't have immune system, they shouldn't have any hair.

They're going to have to eventually if they intend to keep making games in this series. The willful suspension of disbelief will give eventually, even in the most hard-up of fanboys. And by then nobody will be pleased with the outcome. What they should have done is nipped this stupid situation in the bud by revealing Tali's face in ME2, before it turned into this huge epic crisis they're apparently incapable of dealing with.

Take your best character artists and have them draft some concepts. Sit down with your writer(s) who are most familiar with quarian history and biology, your lead cinematic designer, lead animator (for lip synching) over lunch in the office conference room and select the most likely candidate that fits criteria for golden ratios, model rigging and animation needs, and "realistic" design according to quarian biology. Then add it to the game. Done and done. Come on Bioware, it's only as difficult as you make it.

Now, let's discuss my consultation fee.

Bioware has been making games for over 10 years. I think they know how to design their own characters by now.
And IF Bioware really is THAT scared of upsetting a few crazy Tali fanboys, maybe they should just stop. Sometimes you have to ingore the 'fans'.

Any concept posted here will be a poisoned apple, EA legal wouldn't let Bioware touch it with a 100 foot pole. So if you DON'T want to see your vision in game, go ahead and post it.
