Haven't seen any threads on this (but then again this is my first time on the off-topic session here), so I thought I'd let you guys know about the poster that was revealed.

Image IPB

Pretty ominous stuff and I can't wait for the trailers to release.

Antagonists are Bane and Catwoman.

I loved both Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. RIP Heath Ledger, your Joker was badass and perhaps the best movie villain in a long time.

Hopefully Bane will break the Bat.

Catwoman is an antagonist? That must be why they are pairing her up with Bane. Catwoman's conflict with Batman has always felt too subtle to fulfill the role of a movie's big bad. I have a tough time picturing her being as heavy-handed as Ras Al Ghul and the Joker were in the last two films. Bane makes more sense for that, but I have no love for the character and thought little of the "Knightfall" arc. Hopefully he will at least be a mastermind and not a simple thug in this portrayal. Not that he interests me as much as Catwoman.

@Seagloom: But, don't forget Catwoman started as a Pure Antagonist in the last Continuity I'm familiar which, which is the end of "Blackest Night"...Rachel's dead so...could be a little somethin-somethin going on.

Actually as of now in the DC universe, Catwoman is a full hero. She teamed up with Harley Quinn & Poison Ivy to keep Gotham City safe after Bruce Wayne "died".

Not sure what FLashpoint is doing/will do to her, though.

I'm looking forward to it, though I'm suspicious about casting Anne Hathaway as the Catwoman.

Hey they got Health Ledger as joker which turned out great and that guy was the most unlikely choice cuz he never does those roles

I don't think that Catwoman will be a pure antagonist. She's always been at her best when she is in the grey. Bane is a great Batvillan, and I am really looking foward to seeing him. Anyone been reading Secret Six? He's awesome in that. Like when he finally cut loose and went beserk, reminding everyone just who he is....

Comic continuity makes my head hurt.

No kidding, VNB. As far as I am concerned, Catwoman ceased existing after BTAS ended and I stopped reading comics. ;)

Great. Another crappy comic book movie. The only thing that distinguishes the Nolan Batman flicks from the rest of the trash is the pretentiousness.

The thing that bothers me about the choice of Bane as the villain is that they chose to downplay the outlandishness of the villains in the movie, e.g. Ras Al Ghul wasn't immortal nor was there any mention of the Lazarus pits, Joker wore make up instead of actually having white skin and green hair. Granted they went a little overboard with Two-Face... but still Nolan tried to downplay the fantasy elements as much as possible. It's hard to do that with Bane, since he's among Clayface, Victor Freis and Poison Ivy as being one of Batman's more superpowered villains. I would have guessed Riddler, Deadshot or maybe even Hugo Strange as the next main villain.

That said I don't think I've ever seen a bad Nolan film. I didn't think the Prestige and Inception were great films, but they were good films. This is one I'll probably see.

The latest films have always been a new take on the old moulded characters.    Personally I find it refreshing and different when they steer away from the expected norms we've seen already with the characters.  Thats why I really like the last two movies, its stuck to the core, but hasn't been afraid to twist an interesting spin on it all.   They done really well in my book.

I like the idea of Catwoman as the antagonist more then I like her as a hero.  Maybe my personal preference, but im sure others are similar.   Judging by the poster its going to be another dark installment and its certainly something Im looking to hearing more about.

:)

Liam Neeson will also return as Ra's, though in Flashbacks, since Nolan is taking the Batman universe in a more realistic direction. So, no Lazarus Pit. It was said, that there would be a female antagonist, and a female love interest for Bruce Wayne. So, I thought Selina Kyle would be the new love interest, and Talia Al Ghul would be the antagonist. Although, this might have changed.

Me too, kinda. Except...I must admit, I shook my head in dismay when I heard Heath Ledger was The Joker. Didn't we all.

Man, I totally got that wrong. One of the best acting performances EVER.

Thing is, Bane isn't actually super human.  Yes, he takes a drug that makes hims superstrong, but I think that Nolan can handle an experimental super steroid in a realistic manner.  The tumbler and batpod weren't exactly realistic either.

I don't think Catwoman will be any sort of "Big Bad" like Ras or the Joker.

Given the hints that Liam Neeson might be around in flashback form as Ras, I'd guess Nolan's Bane might have some connection to the League of Shadows.

The poster has a very No Man's Land vibe to it.

Batman begins was good.

In fact its one of the few film in recent history that i can sit through without chugging down half a bottle of aspirin. Dark knight however was absolute none-sense : The story didn't add up, too many sub-plots, the car chases didn't make sense , the bat cycle especially , the bat sonar was something Joel Schumacher would come up with, the dialogue was poorly written ; You're not supposed to explicitly state the nature of the Batman/Joker conflict.

I have a nagging feeling that people feel obligated to give Dark knight a thumbs up , simply because Heath Ledger died. The acting was good , but the rest is sub-par at best. Frankly i'm not getting my hopes up; I wouldn't be surprise to see Neon light on the batmobile again and some cheap ass one liners : Oh , this is a Cat-astrophy *Snickers*

Ugh , I'm getting some aspirin.

Dark Knight had some issues, especially with all the subplot stuff thrown in, there was way too much of it for a two hr movie. That said, I feel it was better than Begins by a significant margin. The action sequences were way better, the acting was better ( no Katie Holmes ) the sets and effects were better. The fight scenes, though not spectacular, were definitely better. Just my opinion but there it is.

And on catwoman. No way will Nolan have her going fisticuffs with the Bat, not without her seriously losing. Nolan's smarter than that. I doubt she'll be an outright baddie.

Well there's tons of stuff that isn't realistic in the movies.  The grapple guns, the cell phone sonar device (Not that you couldn't construct a device that would give you sonar vision, but you couldn't do it with cell phones), martial arts in a cape (the first time you throw a roundhouse kick and have it wrap around your leg you're doing a costume redesign), the sky hook (which would break every bone in your body), etc.  But Nolan tries not to make it too obvious, and it's not worse than say the Die Hard series in terms of breaking the laws of physics.

I suppose he might portray Bane as a drug lord that's peddling a street drug called venom that causes psychotic breaks that grant the user hysterical strength and he partakes of his product.  Of course that means that Bane on venom would be a savage animal as opposed to the cunning villain that broke Batman's back.

As far as I'm concerned, The Dark Knight is awesome. Looking forward to this. Will have to keep an open mind for Bane/Catwoman.

I find Nolan's pseudorealistic approach to comic book films appealing enough. Maybe it is perfectly possible to make pretentious films about a super rich dude dressing up like a bat and wielding fancy tech, but it's not the word I'd use in this case.

A movie with Catwoman called The Dark Knight Rises! Seriously? Why do I have the feeling that Nolan is secretly laughing his *** off?!
