FIrst, the name "Conductor" is pretty lame, unless it has something to do with the mysterious "song" that darkspawn hear, lyrium supposedly makes, and the idol gave off.

I'm guessing this 2k year old derpspawn has the ability to manipulate/direct/conduct the song. He's probably not the source, because he would be the Composer, but if Bioware is going to give a big evil villain a goofy name like the Conductor it's really only because it has signifigance to the one major idea running through the games.

Thoughts? You know I'm right.

As mentioned in the thread just above yours, "Conductor" is not his name.

And here I was hoping he was going to be a badass train conductor from 2000 years in the future come to the past to give Thedas the railroad.

I read that when you translate Corypheus into Greek (or something like that) what you end up means 'primary' or 'first' ... so perhaps this guy is one of the first darkspawn?

SPOILER WARNING

Corypheus seems about right, if you google it you will find an image of the ancient darkspawn subtitled Corypheus.

Interesting. Coryphaeus is ancient greek for: The conductor, chief, or leader of the dramatic chorus.
So conductor is his function if the subtitle to the image is correct.

Im thinking the Conductor will have alot in common with the Architect, whatever he is its probably safe to assume the Architect is the same

I find his name to be ridiculously funny. In my country, a conductor is a person who checks if you have a ticket when you get on the bus. There is actually an old and very popular song that goes: "My father was a conductor, I am also a conductor, daddy punches tickest, I punch women" (although in this particular context, "to punch a woman" means that you have sex with her, no, don't ask).
I'll laugh every time I hear the main villain's name.

Don't The Old Gods, lyrium and Idol all have different songs?

Not as far as we know.  It's never really been elaborated on beyond that they produce "the song."  Though I could be mistaken; I'm a codex nerd but I haven't read any of the actual books.

I haven't read any of the books either but I never got the impression from Awakening that the song that Justice was listening to from the lyrium ring and the song of the Old Gods that the Architect talked about were related.

I mean they have different sources, different beings can perceive them and they have totally different effects on anyone who hears them.

As I remember it, the old gods call to the darkspawn (according to the chantry at least) who then finds the old god, (a dragon), then they corrupt it with their (black) taint, and an Archdemon arises. Again, according to the chantry.

However, I've always felt something was wrong with this -ahem- theory. If the old god, the dragon, calls, or sings, to the darkspawn, then it must know that they are there....it just doesn't add up that darkspawn suddenly stumble upon a old god, a dragon, just as a coincidence...

The Architect and the Mother both say there is a call of the Old Gods in Awakening and that is what draws them to the sleeping dragons.

The old gods(which are real since there is evidence not just from the Chantry but from other cultures and darkspawn that it's a call that somehow forces the darkspawn to dig and find the old god. They don't just enter caves and go hai. They dig and listen, it's a forced fate. Only certain darkspawn are free from the calling and have freedom  of choice.

It should probably be noted the Darkspawn are generally not that bright. It's supposed to take the call of the Arch Demons to completely unify them. In Awakening it's hinted in application though that groups of darkspawn will unite under a disciple but it's not the same sort of call and control. The Old Gods did supposedly contact the humans and taught them magic. Theory and hinting that the Old Gods seek freedom from the prisons of the Maker (If you believe the Chantry Legend). This could hint at their gambit was Tevinter Magisters touching the seat of the maker which may have back fired and sent the humans back down as Dark Spawn. This could have been part of the plan though. This does end up freeing them somehow if the Taint releases the prisons they are kept in.

Should also note that it may not have even been the maker that really trapped the old gods. There are collections of myths and legends that to a point do not agree but also don't fully discredit each other.

The 'song' is a sound emanating from the old gods...it is not directed at the darkspawn per say. The Darkspawn can perceive it and are compelled by it.

The old gods however are not seeking the darkspawn out

So since this new Darkspawn is apparently a Greek conductor, perhaps he somehow makes the song audible for Darkspawn or amplifies it?
