In most W-RPGs (and some J-RPGs) that I play, I usually end up spending an inordinate amount of time managing inventories. So much so that I have sometimes said that I spent more time playing "inventory tetris" (even if it does not use the grid based system that gives rise to the term) in game "X" than I've spent playing game "X". I play as something of packrat usually. ("Packrat you is, you going to hell!")

I was wondering if I should expect more of the same in DA:O (most probably). And how does the inventory system compare to other games?

A quick list of games that I have spent large amounts of time playing inventory tetris (roughly in order from most time to least)

Neverwinter Nights
The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion
Neverwinter Nights 2
The Elder Scrolls III: Morrrowind
Seige of Avalon
Fallout
Fallout 2
World of Warcraft
Icewind Dale
Icewind Dale II
Fallout 3
Baldur's Gate
Baldur's Gate II

It's not going to be a big part of DA. Your party has a shared inventory, and the inventory works on an item number limit that can be increased, rather than a weight limit.

This has list inventory, much like Kotor, ME, JE...

I prefer *tetris* but that's just me I guess.

As far as I know, it'll work exactly as it does in DAJ. You get a list. Party can hold 100/200/300 some odd items, no weight constraints.

From what I seen from video's,  it is a lot like Mass Effect and Kotor.

Haha! I'm kinda torn on the subject myself. In some of my favorite games I've spent so much time managing inventories that doing it in another game (that I may not enjoy quite as much) brings in the feeling of the game I liked.

BUT, I spend soo much time playing inventory tetris, I have a hard time judging the length of a game. (I usually subtract 1/3 of my clocked time due to inventory tetris because I'm sure that that is a "close" estimate)

I don't mind moving stuff around, the shared inventory can be both a blessing and a curse. (Have to play to see for myself). I did not like the list inventories in Kotor or ME at all, major annoyance so my reservations are large. JE didn't matter much as the amount of *loot* was very limited.

As they stated above the inventory is the one from DA: Journeys plus a couple aditional tabs for components and such

I much prefer a limited weight/tetris system like like baldurs gate.

I feel the scrounging experience is one of the important factor in an RPG, being immersed in the limitations of what you can and can't carry and then solve that problem with a bit of switcharooing and some sacrifices makes for a gratifying experience, especially after you unloaded your junk at a store.

It was also a nice way to file all the items you wanted, on character might store all the extra bolts and arrows, one kept track of all the jewels and the strongest of the characters kept 12 suits of platemail armor :)

The list inventory in DA kinda ruined it for, for one you had to spend alot of time to scroll to the item you wanted to use, also, when you suddenly reach the limit you have a much harder time finding out what to destroy, i in the beginning i did scrounge up everything i could find automatically, i did however moderate myself, but even then when i reached the limit, and when i did you have so much junk and very little choices on how to deal with the storage problem.

You probably had a ton of gifts you didn't want to destroy, plenty of armor that still was worth alot or armor you waited for to level up so you could wear them, weapons with different effects that could be useful later in the game.(lotsa generic unique weapons)

You became so removed from the logistics because the wasn't any pointers that told you to rearrange stuff before it was to late.

What I don't understand is why, when I've completed a plot-quest or especially a side-quest, and I'm done with a certain plot item (especially one I've supposedly given to someone else -- like the 'Corpse Gall' for example) it stays in my inventory and I can't get rid of it. Can sell it, can't destroy it, and it just sits there taking up space.

It's very annoying, especially when I go on a long quest and keep picking up items I want to hang on to and sell when I get back, but my inventory keeps maxing out due to all those useless 'plot-items'.

Anyone know the reason for this?

I think it's a bug :(

I also still have all the parts of Topsiders honor in my inventory when I put the sword together, but plot items don't take inventory space so that shouldn't be a problem.

So you like having carrying limits but you also don't like having carrying limits? Could you sort this out for me?

They don't?  Oh -- I just assumed they did since I'm always near maxed out even when I'm hardly carrying any extra stuff.

Although I just realized that the more characters I add, their equipment takes up more space . . . maybe that's the problem.

For me all the consumables, different ointments, roots and mushrooms take the most space. I keep trying to convince myself to sell them to get more space but I keep thinking that I "might" need them or something :)

Did you buy all the backpacks to expand your inventory space? They made my life much easier :P
