I just did the Suicide mission with Mia Shepard as she's running away Harbinger yells
'those you fear as humanities destruction are really its salvation"  or something like that.  First time I heard that, has this topic been broached before?  What does he mean?  Anyone?

He is willing to save humans from the curse that is organic life and let them become "the pinnacle of evolution and existance" (reapers).

I'm going to go out on a limb and "no".

You know the whole "Giant evil space mecha-Cthullus who want to grind us up into grey paste" thing doesn't scream "Secret Good guys" to me at all.

All we need to care about is this: Reapers want to destroy our civilization, we will die or live as slaves to their cause. That's enough reason to disregard anything they say to justify what they do, and to fight for our survival.

Ah yes, "the galactus theory" that the reapers are actually holding off an even greater threat and need to reap to worlds to allow life in some form to contuine; I thought we had dismissed these claims.

They only want to grind high quality people up (no vorcha allowed). It's not a question of them being the good guys. It's a question of them beliving their own way or existing is vastly superior to ours. Given that it is only natural they scoff at humans who are too dumb to accept the gift of a transformed and improved state of being. The first reapers were probably made using volunteers. An advanced species, presumably with a culture less centered on the individual than current day humans, decided to make themselves into paste so they could be poured into spaceships and live forever. To them it was all well and good. Shepard is free to have a different opinion.

I assume the paste somehow contains parts of the "victims" consciousness and that it's not simple reaper fuel or anything like that. Together they form the independent, everlasting nation that every reaper is.

The obvious part of what the reapers are saying is this: why wouldn't you rather be immortal? Why die at 150 solely for the purpose of maintaining your status quo notion of individuality? You should rather be Frankenstein's Monster, marching around mechanically with arms stretched in front of your body and bolts sticking out of your neck if it means being immortal! You should rather be Dracula living your life only at night (...half cycles...get it?) and satiating yourself on drawn blood if it means being immortal.
