First of all, I'd like to start off by saying I have no clue where this belongs, but this seemed to be an appropriate place. If it is not, I appologize and will go in the right direction.
I just recently bought NWN2 Platinium as a part of the Steam sale, and I loved the game. I remembered hearing from one of my friends that there were alot of good modules out there, so I went and looked at the vault, and found one that cought my eye .http://nwvault.ign.com/View.php?view=NWN2HakpaksCombined.Detail&id=53 I downloaded the files to the correct location, and booted the game and started a new character. many of the modules new classes and races are buggy, saying item names and such as classes and giving blank descriptions, so I want to delete the mod and go back to vanilla. Im not sure at what damage just deleting the hak/tlk/override files would do, so I am reluctant to do that.
tl:dr, installed hak/tlk/override files and now i want to remove them.
would just uninstallng the game through steam work, or is there some deeper process i need to go through?

Reverse the process on the page.

Right. You need to find all the files that you put into the override folder, the hak folder, and the tlk folder and delete them. Be careful here. Make sure you don't delete the wrong ones or you may break other stuff. When I remove mods, I go back to where I got the mod from, double check the names of all the files, double check where I put them, then erase them.

You should also move any characters you made using those haks/mods out of Local Vault. The game sometimes hangs when listing available characters to start a module or campaign if it can't find their classes in the 2da's, for example.

Sounds like you wanted to use kaedrins, not sure how good that combined version is. Haks should be no issue at all, they only load when it's specified by the module author so you can just ignore them. ALL you need to do is zap the contents of the override folder. I would suggest getting kaedrins actually version as i know that is bug free and higher quality level than what you get in the OC, and ROF is definitely lower quality.
There also is a dialog.tlk file that goes in the root of the player folder ( "my documents/neverwinter nights 2"), if that is missing it would cause your issue.
If that does not fix it, a complete rebuild of your player folder is in order. This is a way to recreate your content to how it was when it was first installed. Just go into the "my documents" folder, and rename the folder "neverwinter nights 2". Then start the game and it will create a new "neverwinter nights 2" folder which is pristine. If you ever want to get the prior version, just swap names back and forth. ( there also is a -home option which allows you to do this on the fly )
This puts you right where you were when you started the game. If you want saved games, character files, copy the "localvault, "Saves" folders from the old folder to the new one. Note that any characters created using kaedrins content will crash the game without said content, so you might want to skip the localvault if you are just getting started, or cherry pick the characters you copy over.
Your prefs are in
nwn2.ini
nwn.ini
nwnplayer.ini
nwn2player.ini
Copy those and you should be good to go and anything you've done should be undone just like when you got the game, but you still will have your prefs and the like. Of course doing all that is just to get your settings back which might not be needed if you never chose any prefs.
( if you still have issues after doing that, i'd think you installed things to your application folder under program files, which is going to be messy to fix, might have to remove and redownload from steam to fix then if you cannot retrace your steps. There is no reason to put anything outside of the NWN 2 folder in "my documents" since by doing so you lose the valuable option of just starting over like i described above with a new folder )

Thanks to everyone who responded, I think im going to go with pains way of just making a new file, because I can just start over easily. When I make a new folder named "neverwinter nights 2" can I delete the other one? also, I know this is a stupid question, but i want to be sure. when I create a new folder in my documents, do i capitalize or not the neverwinter nights, just making sure, becuase i dont want to mess this up.

You probably already figured it out by now, but just incase, I'll respond.
Step 1: Rename your "Neverwinter Nights 2" folder to something else like "Neverwinter Nights 2_backup" or whatever. This folder is found in your My Documents folder.
Step 2: start up the game.
Step 3: You're done. The game automatically will create a "Neverwinter Nights 2" folder and all the needed subfolders in you my documents folder.
This is a good habit to get into. Have a separate folder for each module you are playing or played. For example, your My Documents folder may have the following folders in it:
Neverwinter Nights 2_IWD
Neverwinter Nights 2_Lanterna
Neverwinter Nights 2_OC
Neverwinter Nights 2
Notice the shameless plugs
The "Neverwinter Nights 2" folder will be the one the game recognizes and uses. So if you want to play IWD again just rename the "Neverwinter Nights 2" folder to something else and then rename the "Neverwinter Nights 2_IWD" folder to "Neverwinter Nights 2". Hope this helps and have fun.
